Minimum credit before network issues PAYG PAC?
I'm looking to transfer to PAYG when my current contract ends.
Although, I'm currently with Orange, the PAYG may be with another network.
Is there a minimum amount of credit I need to apply to a PAYG account before I could get a PAC to transfer again? ..and if so, do different networks require different amounts?

You'll find some information in this thread: Moving my number from T-Mobile to T-Mobile!0

All networks require application of credit to activate a SIM.
Cheapest option off the top of my head might be Talkmobile (which works on Vodafone_ which only needs a fiver, you can then move again once the transfer has gone through.Interests: PCs. servers, networks, mobiles and music (esp. trance)0 -

Many thanks for this information - it is going to be useful in the near future!

This is incorrect.
Are you sure?
Some networks will allow you to receive calls and texts before the account is activated ( or even make calls if they are free or included) but this is not the same as the account being activated which is needed to do things like a port.
The account should be registered to you as well before you can port. See the many previous threads and Ofcom's guidance.0 -
IMO if you can receive the calls and texts the sim is active (activated). Porting out may need topup, but this has nothing to do with activation. Are you sure?

I have an active Tesco sim for more than a year that I've never topped up.
I don't have much experience with porting, but others posted in the thread that I posted a link to reported being able to port out without topping up.The account should be registered to you as well before you can port. See the many previous threads and Ofcom's guidance.0 -
There's no requirement from any of the networks I used to top up before porting out, in fact they warn you will lose all gredit when the port takes place. However you will need credit on the network you want to use (the recipient network for the port). This is because a number of firms don't allocate ANY number to the SIM until there is credit applied. The good news here is after the p[ort takes place, you have your old number and the creit applied still remains.0
