Yes. Put it in writing (letter, not email/text!).
Make clear exactly how much was paid initially and for what period, and how much was paid (in error) at the end, and why it was not due.
And request politely that the overpaid rent be returned (specify how - cheque? bank transfer to xxxx?)
I assume you also paid a deposit which should be returned once the tenancy has ended? It is possible the LL will drag out the rent return till that point (or use that as an excuse to delay). There is no time frame for returning the money, but as you say it should be 'reasonable' (whatever that is!).0 -
Put together a spreadsheet showing the rent-due and the amounts paid and when. Then WRITE to the landlord ask them to refund you the overpaid rent with a copy of your spreadsheet attached. I doubt you can expect either a reponse or a refund until you have formally ended the tenancy and handed the place and the keys back., Meanwhile get scrubbing the place spotless so there's no deductions from your deposits.0
