That said, if you unlock the phone, mobile Internet is reportedly pretty cheap on a local PAYG in USA.0 -
Well said, grumbler. If it's unlocked or you can get a basic unlocked smartphone, you can get data from one of the USA carriers for dirt cheap. OTOH, there is a lot of free WiFi in the US, so it really depends on your needs.0

Thanks, for the prompt & helpful responses.
Im considering going down the "unlock & getting another temporary sim whist abroad" & therefore with this in mind can anyone advise :
- the cheapest & most expedient way of getting my phone unlocked
- a cheap sim deal (pay as you go ??) that will give me reasonable call & data coverage for approx 3 weeks.
Thanks again.

Check out tmobile's pay by the day plans. AT&T and the other carriers have some plans as well. Just walk into any of walmartk kmart, radioshack, etc. or a tmobile store and get a sim. . sim+phone combinations are also available for dirt cheap.

Having returned from Florida, ther were NO data PAYG packages available. AT&T are looking at introducing one, but it isn't available. Also without a Social Security Number or US issued credit card SIM cards (even on PAYG) will be a problem.0
