Our vendor seems a little unhinged...

I just got the list of fixtures and fittings through on the flat my partner and I are buying. Several of the things that we'd thought were included in the sale (as told to us by vendor's wife) are not - eg door furniture, cooker, washing machine, etc. That isn't a massive concern, as we'd been planning to replace it all anyway, though admittedly we'd probably have waited a while. Guess we'll have to hit freecycle. I am worried that he'll try to disconnect the gas cooker himself though.
However, on a lot of the standard questions, the vendor has written weird comments. For example, on the bit for TV aerials he's ticked "no" and then written in block capitals "BUY YOUR OWN!!!" More disturbing is that he doesn't seem to much about the services - with regards to sewer systems (septic tank, cesspool, etc) he's written "NO IDEA!!" This happens in several instances. He's also listed that he's the only person over 17 years old occupying the property when in fact he has a wife and infant son.
There are a few bits I was considering asking them to fix prior to completion such as capping the chimney pots, but now I'm nervous that they're going to do something irrational, like vandalise the property. They'd originally wanted much more for the place (we are paying £155k, when they'd wanted offers in excess of £170k), so I'm wondering if they feel aggrieved that they've not got their asking price.!
Should I be worried? Are there any potential problems I should look out for?
Thanks.

Anyone who removed the door furniture is almost certainly unhinged ;-)
Probably bitter about the price as you suspect.
Just make sure you raise your concerns with your solicitor so that the contents are fully detailed with the contract. View again prior to exchange if you are worried.0 -
... PS gas cookers are normally on a removable bayonet fitting so this should not be an issue.0

If you are not confident about the state of the property then I guess you will need to pay for a in depth survey.
I cannot see why someone would vandalise the property, they will gain nothing from doing so.
It is possible that he does not realise the seriousness of the forms and thinks he is having a little joke.
I asked my conveyancer to specifically ask for confirmation that any items removed will leave the water/gas/electric connected safely. I cannot remember the exact wording, but it was clear enough to state that any removals of built in appliances should be done properly.
From other posts on this forum it seems that a lot of people move in and find that built in stuff has been left anyway. As people cannot be bothered taking it out and refitting it elsewhere.0 -
Removing door furniture plus an aerial - wow - what a cheapskate. If it were me I would be reconsidering going ahead with this purchase. It's a buyer's market, and there are bound to be better houses out there, without all the hassle.
If what you are currently experiencing is just the beginning then there may be "troubles ahead". If you haven't spent too much on legal fees etc. then have a rethink.0 -
Back out now, I would.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

sounds like one of those idiots that will blame you for something that is nothing to do with you.
I would be worried about rotting fish hidden away. Some people really do this and it would put me right off.Nice to save.0 -
This doesn't bode well - have you had the survey carried out yet?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
