Is this the cheapest broadband?

Hi there,

I have done a great deal of research and I believe I have found the cheapest broadband for my needs. Please do let me know of a cheaper deal if one exists?

"Unlimited" internet
+Line activation (I dont actually want a landline but I am not in a cable area)
+Wireless router
+12 month contract

Average monthly cost for 1st year

Sky - £17.43
Talktalk - £20.38
Plusnet - £20.14
Tesco - £16.25 (doesn't include line activation, struggling to find cost)

Thanks for any help,

Mark

Since broadband is exchange specific, we can't tell you what is the cheapest deal without knowing what is available on your exchange. Put your number into samknows.com for an exchange search and post the LLU options.
Even on a Market 1 exchange (no LLU providers), Plusnet Extra (not unlimited-it has a 60GB cap) is available for £17.99, so where does £20.14 come from? And that's before discounts and cashbacks.
Your Sky price is presumably for the dire Sky Connect service, which is just a (non-LLU) resold BT Wholesale product. Similarly TT.
In the absence of any LLU options, you'd do better to look at the many smaller BT resellers such as Zen.

    Thanks for your reply.

The prices quoted in my first post are the total first year costs (including line activation, wireless router, discounts etc) divided by 12. So you won't actually see these numbers on their websites, as I have included all the variables such as half price for first 6 months, full price for last 6 months. I found it useful to actually see the average monthly cost over the first year, apologies for any confusion.

We do not currently have broadband or a phone line in the house, so I entered my postcode. I beleive this is the information you were talking about.

The following services are available in your location:
    • BT Wholesale ADSL
    • BT Wholesale ADSL Max
    • BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
    • BT Wholesale SDSL
    • BT FTTC
    • AOL LLU
    • O2 / Be LLU
    • Bulldog LLU
    • TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
    • Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
    • Tiscali LLU

So LLU is a good thing? Sorry this term is new to me. I have done some google research, but don't quite comprehend it's importance.

    Kind regards.

    Go with Sky

I get solid speeds in my area (14/1mbps, 1km away from the exchange) and it truly is unlimited (I'm talking up to 1TB+/mo)

On Sam knows where you put your post code in

    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker

Go on the locality tab and it will tell you how far away you are, as well as other buildings which are supported by that exchange (the less the better)

Sky or 02 are the obvious LLU options there.
You won't get 'unlimited' at a competitive price unless it's an LLU service.
Your prices are not then for broadband, they're for a new line provision, line rental, calls tariff, and broadband.

    Correct.

You are approximately 2.69km from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

    Serves (approx):

    19,284 residential premises
    1,220 non-residential premises.

    Sounds far away and
    busy to me.:(
