My unlimited Free uk text bundle with Orange ran out at midnight last night, got into work just now and topped up my phone with £5 ready to do this month... Go to buy the bundle and the cheeky !!!!ers have put it up!! £7.50 from £5 that's an astonishing 50% increase, how can they justify that! I'm gutted, it's the only reason I'm on Orange... Might now have a look at this giff gaff !!!!...:mad:

I think I (and others) mentioned these changes in March 2012 on here.

They did keep this rise very quiet - and my local newsagent still has lots of SIM cards on display proudly boasting "unlimited texts for just £5" even now.

You could switch to Vectone SIM-only for £5/month and get 100MB and 100 minutes thrown in as well as 3000 texts.

If you need to stick to PAYG, giffgaff will offer unlimited texts for £5 and calls 10p/min. Alternatively, £10 top up every month with T-mobile gets you unlimited texts, and you can cash in your unused credit for £6.50 each month, getting unlimited texts for £3.50 a month - but this may be too much faff.

lolthis happened to my daughter on monday. She bought £5 credit to get the unlimited texts and had a text message saying it wouldnt work or whatever it said. She rang them and they told her she needed to top up £7.50 :-O she was gutted and ranted down the phone that she didnt know they had increased the price and got upset....they gave her the extra £2.50 and gave her the bundle :j .....shes not happy though cos still gonna cost her 7.50 next month, alot to a kid i guess. Oh and her fone is locked to orange so cant get a giffgaff card although was recomended....not quite sure where i would get a blackberry unlokced....more money!! grrr lol

My teenage niece(lots of texts) changed from Orange to giffgaff last month for this very reason.

Alas, the "flexibility" of pay as you go works both ways - you're free to not spend in any given month, and the operator is free to hike the prices at will...

Er, contract users have their rates increased too!

For those who have inclusive bundles most will never notice until the limits are exceeded, but at leas PAYG users can vote with their wallets - something those who are locked into onerous minimum terms cannot.
