I would expect some form of cost/benefit/need analysis has been undertaken which has established they aren't used sufficiently for complex cases.
On the basis they are only in limited number of sites what do the motor dealers in the rest of the country do?
1.) If the simple stuff can be done by Post Offices good.
2.) If this is going to cause real problems for the motor trade surely some lobbying through your federations to give you access to a fast track "Swansea" is what is required.
they are not only for dealers, but for 'joe public' as well
simple stuff can be done at PO,
this still will cause loads of problems as swansea are notorious for 'losing' things, unless dealers and joe public had to drive from all over the country to go there
yes savings have to be made to the gov spending bill, BUT to close down ALL local offices is idiotic.IMOJACAR

Gotta be honest, I won't miss any of them. They're not much use to me to be honest. I think there is only one per county anyway - what use is that to most people?
Go ahead, shut them down and transfer their services online and to the post offices. Perhaps then the PO's can actually survive and start being reinstated.
If it were POs, railway stations, busses etc then I'd naturally be annoyed at the plan to close them but the truth is no-one really likes the DVLA. They're incompetant, uncaring, slow, frequently get things wrong etc. IMO the biggest quango the government owns.0 -

speaking to a robotic script reading fool in swansea/or most likely punjabistan will be a nightmare, at least in the offices you can get things sorted pronto, and as has been said handing documents direct to the people in the office is at least a safegaurd against spurious fines for docs not received(lost by swansea)
I have never needed a local office in the 35 years i have been driving, and I guess i am fairly representative of joe public.
Why should I pay for something almost exclusively used by the motor trade0 -
i think quite a few are forgetting that although they say they never use them , may forget that the motor trader that they bought there vehicle off may have actually used them to speed up there own purchase, no good putting a deposit down to discover they cant actually drive the vehicle away for what could be up to 6 weeks [ waits for groans like "well i would go elsewhere " ].
its normally jo public that causes the problems to begin with, lost logbooks, etc etc, i would say 75% of people in the queue at local dvla office are jo public, and the other 25% traders sorting out problems created by the former .0 -
