leather training lead

Does anyone know where I can get a leather training lead that is not too expensive but good quality? (I know I am probably dreaming!)

I have looked online and found some but am not sure of the quality

If you find one let me know where, I have a great one made of webbing but can't find one of the same build quality anywhere

Best place to pick one up is at a dog show or county show, you can then get to see the quality before you buy.

Just curious as to why you'd want leather? I much prefer webbing that can be slung in the washing machine when it gets smelly and dirty.

I have a webbing one which is fine, but sometimes it can cut in to me a little when pooch is flinging himself at something furry/moving/smelly/icky

I also thought a leather one may be stronger?

I do need to get a new lead as the metal fastenings on my webbing one are getting worn and I want to replace it before something snaps and pooch ends up eating something furry/moving/smelly/icky!

The webbing one I already have is much stronger than leather and very soft, in fact I use it with my fosters before they learn to loose lead walk as it's the only lead I've found that doesn't cut/hurt my hands.

The only problem is I got it years ago and can't remember where it came from and haven't found one as strong and soft since.

The one you linked wouldn't be good enough for my use, I know they say 3/4" is best in their ad but my girl would snap that easily, need at least 1" but better with 1.5" to stand a chance with her. The clips don't look to strong either, about half the size of mine and seems overpriced for what it is. PAH did a similar one for around £8 and a stronger one for £12ish but that was a while ago.

This is my worry. I am looking for something that will last.

Just bought him a leather collar as he currently has a webbing one and I am worried the fastenings are starting to wear on that. Ordered online though so just hoping when it arrives it is ok.

I just had the brainwave of checking my lead for a brand, it's a pets at home control lead (large).

It looks like they do still sell them http://www.petsathome.com/shop/control-training-lead-for-dogs-by-pets-at-home-14421

I've had mine for such a long time they may not still be the same quality but I have to make a trip to PAH soon for rabbit food so will see if I can find one there and let you know if they are still soft and strong.

It may be worth a trip to your local branch to check it out.

Mine has lasted at least three years probably longer and only has a small scuff/tear. I've used it with all my fosters, it's been pulled and chewed in every way possible, it gets washed regularly and is still as good as when I got it.

ETA: I've just reserved one so will go check it out today and update later

    Thanks fosterdog

It looks similar to the one I have at the moment. If the clips are sturdy on it then it looks like it might be the right thing for me :)

I use the Dogmatic leather training leads on my brood. Not cheap (£25 I think when I got them) but soft on the hand yet incredibly sturdy, wellbuilt and versatile. Will last many many years and no fears of them snapping.
Which is good with 11 stone of dog on the end of it.

I use the Halti double ended training leads, they're padded webbing and don't have any issue of them cutting in even when wrapped around my hands and dogs are bolting towards a squirrel (as they did on yesterday morning's walk!). They're fab and very versatile - regular leads, leads to tether them to things, join a few together for a longline, etc.
