Oat Cakes (Hob Nobs)

First batch is out of the oven Trow. Delicious ... they are not even going to get the chance to go cold. Hubbie has begged me to hide them from the offspring! No chance, they can can smell goodies from 50 paces.
I've started my own MSE recipe book with your Mum's Oaty Biscuits being the first into it.
I used self raising flour (no plain in the cupboard), and demerara sugar. The oats are my breakfast porrige oats I use every day.
I took up elona's suggestion to use a glass - our Tesco value wine glasses are the perfect size

Glad they turned out well!
I use plain flour and usually either white sugar or soft brown, demarara could be interesting though! And yes, normal porridge oats - I just use the cheapest in the supermarket although mum always uses Scots as she prefers tham (and is not as much of a moneysaver as me!)
But experimentation is great - might have to try self raising now that apple_mint has!0 -
Oh - and curry_queen, yes try shaping blobs - I do that with the leftover 'bits' from the rolling and cutting so as not to waste them.0

Has anyone tried adding chocolate to the tops of these to make chocolate 'hobnobs' - mmmmm might give it a go later!0

I use a similar recipe with raisins or currants or choc chips etc added into the mix. YumMink0

I made these the other day, delicious! I would probably make half the mixture another time as it makes an awful lot, doesn't it! I am gradually working my way through a lot of different oat biscuit recipes, it's amazing how many there are. The trouble is I absolutely love M & S's oaty cookies from the bakery section - they seem to have some kind of dried fruit or perhaps apricot pieces in. I want to try and make them myself as they are 45p each and I can't resist them! I have bought a packet of mixed dried fruits from Holland and Barrett but they have dried bananas in as well, The M & S ones just have certain things in, has anyone tried them and can they tell me what to use?0

look at the ingredients on the pack, then adjust a basic recipe to match the M&S ingredients - may take several attempts to get the exact flavour, but you shouldnt be that far off at the first go0

I made these the other day, but when it came to rolling out, it was so stiff that I just rolled it into a large sausage and sliced off the biscuits! It saved a lot of time and effort. My kids (and dh) loved them. ThanksQuidco cashback paid out so far £745.89 :j0

That sounds a much easier way of making them. They are still a favorite in our houseEnjoying an MSE OS life0
