Hello all,

Im currently going through a financial declutter to rid of any unwanted bills,

in march 2011 i took out a contract with 3 mobile for 2 years, i pay £25 per month term which included the galaxy s back then, which i can not remember signing any information/ contract

3 mobile are now selling the same plan i am on for £15 cheaper than my plan,

am i within my rights to ring them and say i believe i am overpaying for this service comparing it to their current plans and ask for a decrease in my monthly bill?

kind regards

Halude

Not signing any paper is irrelevant.
You don't have any rights to downgrade unless your contract or '3' internal policy say otherwise.
In his article Escape Your Mobile Contract Marting says that apparently at '3' you can downgrade for £10 "after the second half of your contract" (whatever this means). However, I am pretty sure that this information is outdated and incorrect.

You can't lose anything if you ask though...

Are you saying that Three are selling the Galaxy S for £10-a-month? I don't think they are!

You do not have a right to decrease it to a price they are offering now. Would you take a tv back to currys you boughta year ago at £500 that they are now selling for £250?

You were offered a price plan based on the price of the handset at the time, and you agreed to it for 24 months.

However, ringing them and asking them is no harm.

Thank you all for your replies,

it was just a question to see if people have done it before,

@mark, no i wasn't implying that 3 are selling galaxy's for £10 i was saying the plan i am on, is now being sold for £10 a month.

thank you for your time to respond to me

    Cheers

    Halude.

So the £10 is a SIM-only plan, but you're paying £25 for a contract that came with a free Galaxy S?

Downgrading on 3 mobile is available during the 2nd half of the contract with £10 admin fee.
    Any proofs?

Wrong, you can downgrade for free within 110 days of the the end of your contract. Not before.

  • There is one way that worked for me although I can't guarantee it will work for you, and may backfire.

The wife had a contract for an HTC Desire which was around £38 a month and wanted a Galaxy S2 for which she had already taken out a second contract.

Her plan was to sell the HTC Desire (which she did) and cancel the contract and pay the ETF.

I phoned 3 retentions (she hates dealing with call centres) and told them we were prepared to pay the ETF which was around £160 (they gave several different figures around this price bracket)

They really were not keen for us to cancel (they are well known for this) and tried to convince me to keep the conract going despite me telling them we had sold the phone and had no use for the SIM.

Eventually they said if we kept the contract they would reduce the price to £25 a month. I quickly worked out that 5 months of this would cost less than the ETF and took the offer. Although offering this cost 3 revenue, I guess the retentions agent still gets scored on having saved a customer.

So you could try that trick of asking to cancel and see whether they offer you a downgrade for the remainder of your contract. It is well known to work for Virgin Media (when out of contract) but 3 retentions seem even more desperate to keep you and may well make you an offer even when still in contract.

(It may back fire of course and they call your bluff and actually process the termination, but it takes a long time to get them to actually do this).

Nothing on the website I see, but I did this back in April. Was paying £30 a month. Now paying £15. I was due to finish my £30 a month contract in August.
