Sky Broadband - all went wrong on May Day

Thanks again Penrhyn. We're planning on doing that later.
Sadly my partner made the mistake of switching our router off this morning, as he wanted to tidy the wires. Its not been good since. I'm currently wired, but even that is taking its time to "find" the broadband connection. Its fine once its found it, but it means we again have no wireless access and our slaves are struggling. Will try the slave again tomorrow morning. Hopefully the router will have settled itself by then.
We've lost temper though and cancelled, switched over to plusnet. Was a nice surprise to discover Sky are locking our phone number, so we'll need a new one although its not being treated as a new install thankfully. Had a call around and have been told that's very standard. Glad we only really have the landline for the broadband and for the parents to call.
Sky have so far refused to release a MAC code, saying things like "we're on their network, but not on their network" and then telling us we need a third party take over. And then saying they'll issue the MAC code when plusnet give their date of takeover.
GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
Such a shame, like I said, Sky have always been great for their telly.Data protection is there for you, not for companies to hide behind0 -
Can I ask if you have tried another router? you can buy netgear ones cheap the DG834GT is a good router. Tap into the Sky router for your username and password. There are lots of posts on the Skyusers forum to explain this. Alternatively have you tried using OpenDNS servers just in case its the Sky DNS servers?
It really does sound like the router and from your posts it doesn't look as though the router has been eliminated from your equation. The losing internet all the time could be a faulty router but worth checking.
Good luck!0 -

We haven't tried a different modem router for two reasons, firstly it's against sky's terms (and theyve said no to that idea) and secondly that's another cost to us and in the course of solving this we've spent a lot.
We've also tried 4 different routers from them. There is a fifth on the way, which we'll try but I can't see what that's going to do that the other four aren't. Two are the older sagecom and two are the newer n routers. The same result is being replicated.
I may have a look into the DNS settings, though must admit that's beyond my technical know how and I don't want to try it without an idiots guide!Data protection is there for you, not for companies to hide behind0 -
Its looking like a faulty port at the DSLAM in the exchange, however Sky would have to recognise this and arrange for BT to perform a Tie pair shift. I seriously doubt that there is anything wrong with your router. I've had a few supplied by Sky in the past to solve problems which turned out to be the line. When you get your new Wireless N router and you still have problems do the escalation. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

After a bit of Sky refusing to release our line, Plusnet have finally taken over our line. The internet was activated and we're on the internet wirelessly with no problems whatsoever. Still none the wiser as to what was happening with Sky, unless the switch prompted someone to do something at the exchange they hadn't done before. Good news at least. Thanks for all the advice everyone.Data protection is there for you, not for companies to hide behind0
