So naturally diesel is in shorter supply.
So my car uses a whole barrel (and more) to fill up?
I realise there are by products from the barrel......but surely this can't be right?0 -

It's right......
Gallons per barrel:
Petrol 19.5
distillate fuel oil (Includes both home heating oil and diesel fuel) 9.2
kerosene-type jet fuel 4.1
residual fuel oil
(Heavy oils used as fuels in industry, marine transportation) 2.3
liquefied refinery gasses 1.9
still gas 1.9
coke 1.8
asphalt and road oil 1.3
petrochemical feedstocks 1.2
lubricants 0.5
kerosene 0.2
other 0.3
So basically there's no point in the entire world converting to more efficient diesel cars, as 2/3 of the car fuel production from a barrel of oil will always be petrol.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Also, diesel particulates (as engines get better and more efficient these get smaller and travel further/stay in the air for longer) are a leading cause of cancer.

Sorry but it doesn't work like that, that's the cost of oil.
Add on the fixed costs like tax, cost of refining. transporting and selling the petrol at he retail outlet and you'll be closer to understanding a little bit about petrol prices.
This is great. You're so desperate to disagree with everything that graham says that you will actually argue that he is wrong to say that lower oil prices should logically lead to lower petrol prices. I think you need to get out more.0 -

I was under the impression it was a by product of petrol refining being a heavier distillate?
Diesel use has taken off in the last 10yrs,dont forget emissions have also been tightened dramatically, namely Sulphur at spec of >10ppm.
Where as you could draw off diesel,it now has to be processed further to comply with emissions.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -
interesting site here that allows you to see how much we are being ripped off in comparison with other countries like Germany or France

Maybe that online degree in psychoanalysis that you purchased wasn't actually that good.
Do you want to try again?0 -
Errr no, I was trying to explain the segment of the pump price where any price change would take place. Shall I explain it to you in crayon or didn't you want to understand? You are a highly paid accountant (allegedly) after all, no wait...

Keep living the fantasy life George Clooney, it's not the forum you need to convince you're a high flying accountant but it sounds like yourself.0 -

If its a diesel, then yes.
A barrel of oil contains around 34 gallons in total.0
