I have walked out of places before now when they've narked me. I walked out of asda once leaving £100+ worth of shopping on the conveyor belt as she refused to give me bags because I should of brought my bags for life.

This happened to me in Caffe Nero. It was central London, I'd NEVER had a card turned down even in the independent newsagents, and only ordered a coffee. Didn't have enough cash, so said I'd have to leave it, and the lady let me have it for free :D

Agree they should have a sign up. I'd write to Head Office and complain, just to make myself feel better!

In the past where I've been buying something for £4 or more and they have had a sign, and I've had no cash on me, I've said "Can we just make it a fiver?" and they've agreed. Not very money-saving but sometimes I've just been desperate for whatever-it-is and really don't have time to go out and find a cashpoint, so for the sake of 50p or £1 I just pay the extra to get it on card. I wouldn't do it if I was getting a £2 coffee though.

    I've been Money Tipped!
It would not even cross my mind to use a card for such a small amount.

I often go for days without physical cash on me -It wouldn't even occur to me that a savvy business wouldn't take a card for a £4.50 transaction.

  • I think writing in and complaining is abit OTT. At best, you will give some assistant a bit of a giggle on what would otherwise be a boring Monday afternoon.

Drop it, don't go there again if it bothered you that much :)

I have to say, I went to a co-op cash machine the other day to find it wasn't working. I only needed 10.00 so I went to buy a bottle of pop for 1.20 and get 10.00 cashback. The lovely man on the till informed me that its normally a 2.50 spend for cashback, but he would do it this one time for me. bless him.

A while ago I went into a Tesco, did my whole weeks shopping, got to the till and was informed, after packing, that there card machines were not working. No signs, nothing. Some 'technical' issue. There cash machines outside wernt working either!!! I was advised too go elsewhere to get money out, come back, Q again, and then pay with cash.

I promptly informed the lady that in the same time, I could happily go to a cheaper store, such as Asda (very loud voice!!) and complete my shopping there. She huffed a bit. As I went to walk out and leave her with the bags of shopping, about 5 other people followed suit.

I felt like I was in some sort of strike. Fabulous feeling!
