I'm not quite sure I can explain this properly, so please bear with me!
Over the last week or 2 I've noticed that on several websites I use (including MSE) some of the words have been turned into links and when you hover the mouse over it it comes up with an advert (It says at the top it's powered by text-enhance). I've not downloaded anything onto my computer and I've run every scan I can think off, but nothing comes up. Is there any way to get rid of this? It is so frustrating
My DH has also noticed this on his laptop too, so is it some new thing?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanx, Jo.

Sounds a bit like Skimlinks. Have you checked to see if it's turned on.
You should have a link on the right hand side of the page on MSE telling you whether it's turned on or off.0 -
A while ago I put my car details into "webuyanycar dot com" just to see how much I'd get for it,turned out to be a fraction of the book price.Anyway, for weeks afterwards whenever I went onto certain sites as well, like my PhotoBucket account,I'd see an advert from them with my car & their offer on it.
Ran CCCleaner & that seemed to clear it.0 -
Thank you all for your help and advice - I managed to get rid of it, but it's just come back and is now on FF and Chrome. Arghhhhh, why won't it just die!!! Lol.When life gives you lemons make lemonade. When life gives you chocolate......eat it! :rotfl:0

Slighty OT, but I can recommend www.bestcarbuyer.co.uk
As for your adverts/skimlinks etc I use Firefox with Adblock Plus and Noscript. Noscript stops pretty much anything although you will have to add a whitelist for you important sites (you can do this 1 site at a time as you visit them).
I very rarely see an advert. Been years for English language sites.0
