Help I have a problem I sent an item first class on the 15th March to the buyer who is being nice at the moment considering his items not arrived. I was meant to post it recorded delivery bit forgot as I was posting 11 items out that day oh I can't believe I done that honest mistake as the winning bid was £46 quite expensive. Anyway he says he's not recieved it and because this has never happened to me or him before I am trying to sort it out. He's checked it's not been posted or in his sorting office and I went to my post office today and was giving a claims form thing. I read it and I do have a reciept proof of sending from when I sent the item and the lady at posty told me to photocopy it and send that. The thing is it was paid by paypal and I have paypal so
Does he claim paypal?
Do I claim the royal mail? or does he claim them both?
Who sends the claim form?
Oh please help me I have to contact him tonight to sort this out and my heads about to burst with it. Anyone please help!

I think that it needs to be 14 days till you can class it as been lost in the post. After this you need to refund the buyer via paypal. Do you mean the 5th march. You need to claim your money back off royal mail, I think you can claim up to £320

Firstly can you please clarify the date you posted it...
As alwasonthego says RM do not consider items lost for quite a while, it is actually 15 working days (3 weeks). However the buyer does not have to wait until your claim with the RM goes through, you will need to refund him in a timely manner and in full.
Both recorded delivery and standard mail cover losses up to £32, and whether the RM will pay out anything if the item lost was more than that, is open to debate. I have seen posts where people have been able to claim £32 of the loss, but have also seen posts where the RM have refused to pay anything on the basis that goods over £32 must be sent by special delivery, and have not refunded anything as the wrong postal method was used.
At the moment what you need to do is be very reassuring to your buyer. Let him know how the item was sent and how it was wrapped and suggest he might want to talk to his local sorting office in case they are holding it for him. If however the item does not turn up by about week 2 or 3 you will need to just refund his paypal payment.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. However, I have done this too and always think it suspicious that it never arrived. We all make mistakes and it does happen and most are understanding about that. I ask my buyers to wait 10 working days and then refund and send the form into the RM. If you use SmartStamp you can print off the transaction details for that page and use it as proof of postage, else attach your POP and you can print the claim form off the Rm website but they always pay me back when sending by 1st class mail, but the max claim is £32.0

Hello thanks for your advice I posted the item on the 5th of March.
In that case it is still early days, try and maintain good communication with your buyer and hold off refunding for a few more days yet.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yes your buyer is covered, which means if he chooses to he can log a full chargeback with paypal who will simply remove funds from you to repay him.
It's much easier to refund without the necessity and unpleasantness of getting paypal involved.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
