usually about £20 on each - same for my mum this year - however for MiL we have spent £100 (she does usually get more at Bdays and xmas as well as she has our dd during the day for us and unlimited free babysitting!!) and went in with DHs 3 sisters (they also put in £100 each) to buy her a new pedigree yorkshire terrier puppy - as she lost her yorkie to old age just after xmas - she got him about 3 weeks ago now - so I suppose we will have to get her something token for the day - probably some flowers though.

MiL I have potted up some primroses in a tercotta pot, total cost £4.30 but someone had given me a £5 garden centre voucher so actually nothing, it is her birthday the same weekend & for that she is getting a triple leather photo frame from Smiths half price down to £4.99 with 3 photos of hubby & son in it which is what she asked for.
Mum I would have doen the same plant pot arrangment but she has asked me tyo get her the Queen on DVD, I don't begrudge her it but at £13 ish could have done with getting the lower price pressie TBH:o

Seems i am spending the least so far.

I only have my MIL to worry about and so far all i have spent is a pound. I have stitched her a lovely picture, from a free chart and using threads i already had and someone sent me a lovely box of belguim chocs over christmas which i didn't want but i know she loves so i put those aside for her aswell. Also made a card. So all i have had to actually buy is a frame for the stitching and i got a lovely one from the pound shop.

What will really make her day is her son turning up on the day with hand made card, picture and chocs, as she rarely gets to see him due to work.

Its not the money its the time, effort and thought that matter in the end.

So has anyone spent less than a pound?

I brought my mum a light for her kitchen £10 *down from £15), made her a card £0, £50 note inside, box of chocolate £0.50 reduced from £5.

Picked up one of my sisters before going to mum and dads house this morning which was a nice surprise for her. Drove her to Morrisons for her Sunday shop. She only got bread and celery so paid for that.
