I shall let my 80+ parents know of your sentiments whilst also letting them know that their ISAs have now transferred over, with my help, to accounts which now pay around 2.9%pa more. Probably earns them around £700pa more.
As to the supposed "granny-tax", my mum pays no tax so will not be affected. However my aunt and dad who will be affected and had read the usual over-the-top tabloid press reports, were totally happy when it was properly explained to them. My dad was much happier as he won't be subject to the 30% tax clawback and probably means that he can finally get rid of his tax returns - also saved him a bit on that as he had mistakenly put my mum's interest onto his tax return and was being taxed extra for gross interest.
Really think you should stick to the boozin and cruisin as that seems to be your forte.

will do this just for you as I have neither the time or inclination to spend all day and night arguing with people here I would cross over the other side of the street to avoid.
This has just got to be the silliest part of your rant. That you post an OP basically ranting and asking what others think, but have little inclination to debate or discuss as you haven't got the time. you are retired, you have PLENTY of time.
I am sorry that you did not save enough during your lifetime to be comfortable, and that until we are all equal in allowance will have to pay some tax. Hopefully the future rises in the PA for all will claw some of that tax back in future.
You could of course, start saving into a pension with the amt over your tax band.
But I am not sorry you saved a little and won't be sponging off children or the state as some have/are doing. At least you have some modicum of self respect.0
