I have the same problem my daughter's orthodondist on Friday just gone, quoted £2500 for the train tracks on the top teeth only and it should take a year, the new fancy celebrity clear ones(I can't remember what they are called )I was quoted £3000. Hence my search on this site for a cheaper solution. I did not think for years that it was possible now I am excited.
Archwired is great and will answer a lot of questions.0 -
niceGirl that seems alot! I have a ceramic brace on my top teeth only and it was £1500. that's in edinburgh0

The ceramic bit isn't expensive at all.
The thing you're paying for is the orthodontist's time.
So it's hard to compare one treatment against another just on the type of bracket used.
High/low cost area of the country is another factor that affects the price. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I recently got a free consultation by a private dentist
The Invisilign would cost me £2-2.5K
Whitening £510.
He said he wouldnt even recommend getting braces for the gap but a filler thing instead?
I need lots of money!0 -
The white filling method of closing the gap is the cheapest, simplest, does the least damage, and is easiest to replace if/when it discolours.
If you fancy whitening, make sure that's done first, otherwise the white filling won't match anymore! How to find a dentist.

For the past three years or so my dentist has been sewing the seed of braces for my DS. His top teeth completely cover his lower teeth when his mouth is closed although there isn't a huge gap between his lower and upper teeth. He has gaps between all his top teeth (and they are all there). Last time we had a check up the dental nurse reminded the dentist he should be making the referral but he said 'lets wait a bit longer'.
Now he tells me the criteria for NHS braces has changed and although he'll refer DS for an assessment I will have to pay for any treatment!
How much is this likely to cost me and is it means tested? He isn't referring me to Bristol Dental Hospital like my eldest was but to what seems to be a private clinic in Clifton.
I know I should have asked some more questions whilst I was at the dentist but you never think of them until you've left do you?
Now I know I'm quite good at this moneysaving lark but I'm not sure how I am going to find extra dosh for braces and I can't subject DS to a life of crooked teeth, can I?
Help!!!!!!!!!!!Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
Miss tru had braces put in in january, I was worried about the cost too. The orthodontist said that if her teeth aren't too bad, it'd be about £2000  But he went on to say that he's the judge of how good or bad they are and he's never put braces on a child that didn't need them so none of his patients will ever have to pay
I'd ring the surgery and ask why his appointment is at a private clinic.Bulletproof0 -
There has to be a 4mm or more difference between bite on lower and upper set. My youngest has a beautiful set of straight teeth in retainers at the moment and he just got in before they changed the ruling, or I would have and to pay between £2500-£3000.!!!! MY eldest refused to have his teeth fixed at 12 and at 15 changed his mind...back to the orthodontist who said he would send off the moulds to NHS to seek approval for treatment and was refused, even though his teeth are very crooked at the bottom... expensive mistake but I couldn't persuade him at 12 and you do need their cooperation.0

Both my children have had braces at a private clinic and I have not had to pay anything towards the cost.
Check before you go for your appointment but what happened with us was the waiting list at the hospital was to long and we went to a private clinic where they had to send xray and photos of my children to get permission from the nhs to proceed with the work.0
