Sensible boy!Franco78 wrote:By the way, your avatar looks a bit like a dentist I used to go to in London. He was very well tanned and a bit shiny. He retired young. Not you, is it?
Sadly not! I think I'm pretty decent at the dentistry, but I'm a bit lacking in business skills to really get the big bucks!!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
This must have changed pretty recently - I'm just finishing 6 years of NHS treatment (at the grand old age of 33). This included straightening my teeth which sloped back (left me with 7mm ocerbite) then advancing my lower jaw (awful surgery but good way to lose a stone!). Had it all at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London. They like adult patients as your teeth behave differently. Maybe I was just lucky but might be worth asking them? It's a teaching hospital so all work carried out by trainee orthodontists on close supervision.0

No - You have had an osteotomy.
This is a complicated and quite radical proceedure which is done to adults rather than kids, as growth MUST be finished before this can be done.
Teeth don't really behave differently as an adult, but growing bones can serously mess up the results.
For kids, having more run-of-the-mill orthodontics, the tooth movements are made and bone growth helps the final result. How to find a dentist.

Use the principle of 'if you can't hide it - make a feature of it' and get the multi-coloured elastics to hold the wires onto the brackets. That can look quite funky!!!!

You'll probably find you get into a routine the first few days after an ajustment hurt and the last week before you're due they hurt but it should be easier in between. I ate soft food on the days it was uncomfortable and made sure I cut up food rather than biting into it a lot.
It's worth it in the end but there's a reason I lost nearly 3 stone... :rotfl:0 -

Am 19 and want to get braces, is it still possible to get them for free at the dentist?0

I'm not sure, Toothsmith may be along soon to advise, but i'd say probably not unless it was something major? Please don't take my word on it though, I had mine when I was a teenager so many years ago!0

it will depend on what you need doing as much as your age and getting orthodontic work done on your teeth as an adult usually means you have to pay for it. If you're still in full time education you may still qualify for nhs treatment though I don't know what the rules are.0
