I don't know about other people but I don't trust MSE as much as I used to. The same with other comparison sites.
I now know a lot more about how these sites work and make money, it's impossible to still be impartial if you get a lot of money from a small number of companies, even with the best intentions in the world. the primary purpose of MSE and other sites is not to provide information, advice etc etc, but to attract enough traffic to make money through people purchasing through links.
The sites could be about anything at all as long as they attract traffic and make money. The tricky thing is when you are supposed to provide advice and be impartial.

Even "Which?" has had to "go commercial" by selling its recommendations to the companies it recommends, at the moment I still trust "Which?" - I also still trust MSE. This forum will hopefully sniff out hypocrisy.

If MSE had been upfront about how much money they were actually making I would probably trust them more, they made it sound like pocket money to cover website costs and legal expenses.
A lot of people still think this is a campaigning website, but it's a marketing website, now it's more in the open but before the sale it was very much sold to us (and still is up to a point) as a campaigning website.

Probably cheaper and easier than popping in to see uncle, and having to go and redeem your pledge, before it gets sold for a fraction of its value to you.

See the ASA have done moneysupermarket because an "ad breached CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 3.1 (Misleading advertising), 3.7 (Substantiation), 3.9 (Qualification), 3.17 (Prices) and 8.2 (Sales promotions)."

Not good to be misleading about savings when they are running a money saving site.

As far as I am aware, a team member informed me that the MSE forums will remain MSE and completely separate to Moneysupermarket. I trust this to be the case.

I will have NOTHING to do with moneysupermarket, am a little concerned as to whether or not my membership with MSE has been passed over to Moneysupermarket, or whether it remains exclusively as an MSE Forum member. I would hate to think any of my details are part of Moneysupermarket, but trust the team have left the forums completely separate from the deal.

Since the deal was made, I no longer venture onto MSE's main site, choosing to stick to the "separated" MSE forum community.

The payment per click on traffic coming from MSE to MS will now be staying in "the family" for a start.

MSE is tremendously profitable - they rake it in from affiliate links to the tune of several million per year. £60m is a purchase price for a cash cow.
