I'm not seeing much hate, rather concern for the future of a respected and useful resource. If I was Martin and someone waved £87M in my face, I'd have sold too. But I'd be prepared for a lot of flak if I tried to suggest it was an altruistic move for the good of the community. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.

I've not been registered here before but generally use MSE for impartial advice.
Firstly I have nothing against MoneySupermarket, they are a price comparison website which is useful. However they are a private company with private agendas. This seems similar to me when Techcrunch (a then independent tech blog) was bought by AOL. The well known (in the tech scene) founder and blogger was given editorial independence - then slowly but surely AOL clamped down on criticisms and then he was sacked after an editorial dispute. This clearly shows that, whatever editorial independence is in place can be removed by the owners when they wish! as they own it!
Time will tell what will happen to the site, it will still have some good advice and change is sometimes good (brings fresh ideas etc), but unlike the old MSE website you will have to start taking things with a pinch of salt.Anything I say in no way constitutes financial advice and anything you do is your own decision.0 -
MSE used to have the slogan "Consumer Revenge" and Martin was always going on about getting your own back on the rich city fat cats who were using you to make themselves rich.
Now it turns out that all along Martin was building a massive nest egg by using the input of all his forum members and visitors.
The big question now is which will be the next independent advice website we can trust?
I am not bitter though - I'm sure Martin and his millions will be very happy together, and I wish them both the best of luck!
Cheers :beer:You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
Sorry, but having worked for MS for too long (escaped last year), I can't see any way MSE will remain impartial. MS are sharks and this is the end of MSE.0

I can't believe some people are taking this so personally. :undecided
So what if it is a 'sell out'? So what if Martin Lewis' soley only wants to profit massively from this (not that I believe that's his sole motivation)? Do you not think he has earnt it? Is he not entitled to secure his long term financial future from all his graft? Are you all telling me you wouldn't do the same? Fair play to the bloke.
Of course I'd be gutted if this site were ever to change. I'd like to think it will be here to help other people when they're at their lowest and in their darkest place like I was, £40,000 of debt ago. I hope that advice and support will still be there in 10 years time. But I can't begrudge him wanting to secure his future and free up some of his time.
If he has 'sold out', I just hope in true MSE style he got the best deal and went through Quidco too.0 -

Ive got no problem with Martin selling what he owns, but don't try and tell us nothing will change and that they remain independent. You don't pay 87 million quid and get slagged off by that website.
You must have heard of the phrase 'he who pays the piper....'0 -
Wow!! I am shocked at how quick people are to judge.
For me I have had bags of advice which have helped me and my family and changed parts of my life in such a postive way I cannot judge so quickly.
Although I am disappointed (for myself) that Martin has sold MSE, I am totally realistic and realise nothing lasts for ever, I remain grateful that when I needed the help it was there, but will prepare the changes to come.:j:j:j Wooooo Hooooo :j:j:j0 -
I feel that it is quite likely this site will change now, although that is probably the nature of the internet.
I admire Martin's hardwork and intellect; he is entitled to his wealth within a capitalist system.
Bit sad about the end of an era.0
