Can you put me down for another £120 for the month please...I was in budget for last month:j

    This weeks menu is:

Sunday....Chicken, mashed and roast pots. carrots, peas and
sprouts, stuffing and of course gravy.
    Monday....Fish,chips and peas.
Tuesday...Sausage, stuffing, boiled pots, carrots and peas.
    Wednesday...pasta of some discription.
    Thursday...Steak pie, mash, mixed veg.
Friday.......Whatever is on offer at Mr.M thursday night!
Saturday...Chicken satay, Thai fichcakes with noodles and dips.

Apart from my visit to Mr.M's on thursday, I have everything either in the freezer or in stock, so should be another cheap and cheerful weeks menu for me!:T

  • Hi everyone

Have managed to not spend any more money on groceries. Made some really nice risotto wit chorizo and brocolli last night, had some chorizo and was wondering what to do with it and decided to make the risotto as I had some risotto rice in the cupboard, so managed to use up both, was so pleased.

Hope everyone has a laid back and chilled sunday. I am! Good luck for the next week.

    Cheers

    Hi folks,
Was in Morrisons today looking for low energy bulbs ended up buying a bunch of stuff!!!! Spent 19quid on 10tins heinz soup, Luxury Nut Mix Alpen x2 (BOGOFF), 4crusty rolls, 12 packs Jaffa Cakes (BOGOF), 8 tins lager, 2 packs Foxs Crinkle Crunch biccys (1/2 price), and 2x packets of sweets!!!! Was not intending on spending much but the above items were on offer so decided to "stock up" on a few of them. Makes my Feb budget look bad !!! 3rd Feb and already showing 47quid spend!!!!

can recommend using a note book as me and OH have been doing this for years! We use an A5 notebook. At the start of each month we write down how much wages, child benefit & tax credits go in then immediately take off all the standing orders, direct debits, council tax, phone bill, savings (regardless of what date in the month they actually come out of the account) etc to leave a final amount for spending. EVERY time you withdraw cash or use a debit card you have to remember to keep the reciept, write it in the book and adjust the running total. We find it works really well and use it all the time. You can then use the book to check off your bank statements.

This month I am trying the spending cash for groceries method as suggested by several people. I hope it will make me really think about what I'm spending!

I'm off to do my menu plan for the next 10 days.

    Good luck everyone.

We must definately be related as great minds are obviously thinking alike! I too have used an A5 notebook for years and take all the bill payments out off at the start of the month then deduct everything else as I go along-have been using the credit card for all purchases this month but am still deducting them form the running balance so will have enough to pay cc bill when it comes in!

    Hi all,

I haven't joined in in the challenge for a few monthS because my in laws were visiting for 2 months and they paid for a lot of the groceries so it was impossible to keep track. They left in early Jan but they left a freezer full of cooked food so it wouldn't have been fair to join in. But this month, we're back to a semi full freezer and running out of things so it's time to start meal planning and budgeting again.

Our budget is 100 GBP for two adults though this does not count eating out or most lunches. Put like that it does seem a generous budget but any money I save goes into our emergency fund which comes in very useful sometimes, so for the moment I'll stick to it.
Will report back on how I did after our big monthly shop scheduled for Tuesday.
