I've totally lost track of where I'm up to (having baby in the house is sooo distracting!!) but reckon I've gone at least £20 over budget and have empty cupboards!!
I'll start again on Monday as that's when March will start for me. I'm in for £240 again (will try harder). Will post again in the new March Thread when it's up.
Not done my meal planner yet, I'm off to do that now.
May be back to post it later

  • I've failed. I'm £2.51 over budget and expected to end about £10 over my £160 target. It's my 1st month so I'll not beat myself up about it. There's always next month and I'm very well stocked due to some offers so we'll see what March brings.

Good luck to those under budget, hope to see you next month
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!
  • forgot to say Lidl had lots of frozen items reduced to £1, including their lovely vanilla ice cream (usually £2.99 and only for special occasions). Things like grill steaks, burgers and chips I think (didn't buy them, but there were lots of things)

  • Hello everyone, just to update, I had to buy milk again, so am now even further over budget for Feb. Just made a cauliflower cheese for tea to go with a piece of reduced quiche I had lurking in the freezer. I had a giant cauli that my mum gave me that was starting to go a bit manky, cut the bad bits off and used the rest!! Tomorrow we will have a vegetable and lentil casserole in giant yorkshire puddings, using up all the odds and ends in the fridge. At least following this challenge has stopped me just popping out to buy more stuff for meals, I have used up everything I can lay my hands on! Hopefully next month I will actually be able to keep within budget, so please could you put me down for £160 again
My new month will start on Thurs 28th Feb, until Sun 30th March- I will try harder next month!
    Feb 2008 Grocery Challenge £160, Spent £163.48
    March 2008 Grocery Challenge £160 Spent £206.70

    May 2008 Grocery Challenge £150
    Spent : £148.72

  • Hi Lil-Me

Thanks for doing the chart for us. My target for March is £250, I haven't quite finished February and have already gone over, but I am getting closer.

  • Thanks for updating the list Lil_me. I am still here ;), with February target of £180. Will post final actual spend on Friday. Thank you for the great job you've done.

And thanks MrsMc for volunteering to carry on the good work in March. My target will be £180 again but I'll post that when the March thread is up in case that's easier for you.
  • £34 spent yesterday at Mr M's to go quite a bit over budget. It is my first month of doing this challenge so I hope I can only do better! I have a stuffed freezer which I didn't have at the beginning of the month so I suppose this is partly to blame for the overspend.

I'm hoping not to go shopping until next Fri/Sat. Good news is that my Dad can drive now after operation so he can take my Mum shopping rather than me taking them twice a week. I'm hoping by only going once a week will help me spend less. I'm looking to include a couple of cheap non meat meals each week but this may prove difficult with meat loving OH  .

I will post final total next week. Please put me down for £200 again for March. Thanks Lil_Me and MrsMc :)

Tues: Baked Spud with beans/cheese/tuna and salad. HM Brownie for afters

Wed: Stew and dumplings. HM Apple and Pear crumble with custard

Thurs: Hot Dogs on rolls with spicy wedges and salad. Tinned peaches with
    tinned cream.

Sat: kids at their dad's so i'll have whatever I can find (had shredded wheat today, lol)

Sun: Pasta bolognaise/cottage pie with peas. Raspberry jelly.

Breakfasts are usually toast, cereal, egg, crumpets these are also snacks along with fruit and HM cakes/biscuits.
