Netto/Asda grumble

Ok, this is just a grumble to get it off my chest.
We used to have a Netto here, until it was turned into an Asda last year, and all the prices have gone through the roof.
I went in yesterday hankering for some tuna. I reached for the shelf and paused, looking for the price, seeing "95p" and sure that was wrong, so withdrew my hand while I looked for the correct price. But "95p" was the correct price. In Netto 95p would be for a multi-pack of three tins, or 29p for a single tin.
It's the same with margarine - in Netto I could get a tub for 39p or something, now it's 85p-90p for a tub.
Netto used to do two hunks of cheese for £2.50 (£1.50 each). Now they're £2 each, no bulk discount.
The next nearest grocers are Co-op (just as expensive), or Morrisons (more expensive, huge slog up a hill to get home), otherwise two bus journeys or an hour's walk to Lidllll.
Plus, their razors are crap. I wish I'd stocked up with hundreds of Netto ones before they went.

What did you expect? Asda will charge their prices regardless. But you may get some reduced stuff if you can find out when they do that in your Asda or morrison. It is sometimes worth down grading the brand to smart price or similar for certain food items, so that might help. Tins of tuna were OK last time I got some from smart price range. But I admit it has been over a year.0

If you can get tuna for 95p a tin you're doing well! In Mr T's you'll pay more than that in per tin in a multipack.

Asda smartprice tuna chunks in brine are 54pIf you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything. - Mark TwainNappies and government ministers need to be changed frequently and for the same reason0

Yes its a real shame netto has gone but just move on.0 -
Would you expect the same prices if it was taken over by Waitrose or Selfridges? :huh:0

If Netto had been charging Asda prices they would have found the UK market more profitable and would have stayed here.0

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
They bought Netto out so they have more of a market share, they not going to keep to same prices or product range as Netto0
-
netto gone means less competition so they can charge more
it gets harder weekly to not get robbed0
