"...able to pay £20 using contactless terminals, up from the previous limit of £15. The increase brings the UK into line with the eurozone, where consumers can pay for goods worth up to 25 euros using the technology."

Fairly old news and your not adding interesting commentary either0

It may have been old news to you in which case you were free to ignore it. It was not something that I was aware of and others may also have missed it or have forgotten. I did check that there was no existing thread on the topic.
Since when has it been mandatory to add "interesting commentary" when posting a piece of potentially useful information?0 -
I wasn't aware of this thanks for the info!

It wasn't old news to me, so thankyou.
It does seem incredibly open to fraud however.0 -
I'd still say the American system is easier & quicker even though its the oldest. Just walk into any retailer such as Starbucks, buy your drink, swipe your card and your done. No waiting around for authorisation or for the contactless reader to talk to the chip in your card. So it really is quicker than paying with cash.
They only seem to bother to authorise or requests a signature if the value is higher than about $20.0 -

They do use that system you mention in the states, but they also use contactless. You're also incorrect, as the swipe will require authorisation. Although, most cards give this quickly.0 -
If it does require authorisation, it seems to happen much more quickly than contactless, as in swipe, and hand the card back, rather than touch the reader and wait for the lights, which can takes seconds. Perhaps they do the authorisations in the background, I don't know, but it's certainly a LOT faster.0

next it will be 25, then 30, then 35 then, 40then ,45 then and 50

Of course they do authorisation, it's just there is none of the delay that is introduced by the need to communicate and do a handshake with the chip, then request the PIN and process it even more. Once swiped all the data needed for the transaction is in the terminal and it can contact the acquirer for authorisation without the need for further user input.0 -
I use mine all the time in Wilkinsons and certainly make life easier for all of us.0
