Anyone heard of IJT?

Options
My father who is elderly and rather confused has announced he's buying a TV off a company called IJT who rang him up trying to flog him stuff. He's bed ridden so he lies in his special bed chair thing in the living room and watches TV all day, so it's pretty important he has a decent one. The one he's got now is well over 20 years old and it's on its last legs, so we've agreed to get the best deal possible on a good 32" TV.

He gets loads of calls from people selling stuff, and the place is already full of digital cameras that don't work, picnic boxes that double as a mini TV and a salt grinder that also works as a torch, so my heart sank when he said these people had rung him up with this "great deal" of an HD TV for £199. I have looked online and they are a cartridge refilling place, who seem to sell a few Somertek TVs which are HD Ready, but not with HD Freeview.

Has anyone heard of them, or of Somertek? I am essentially now trying to order a proper TV from somewhere trustworthy before he buys this over the phone. If anyone knows anything about the company I could at least pass that info on, in the hope he realises it's a dumb idea.

They are more than likely like a lot of these companies that set up business, buy in container or 2 of Tv's, sell them on and then disappear.

Had a quick look for IJT on a company check, says they NON TRADING. How accurate it is I don't know. No doubt there is someone here who could do a more detailed check.

In all honesty, you may get a nice tv from them, but if anything goes wrong, that is usually where you start to encounter problems. So I would stick to a reputable company. This weekend is jubille with bank holiday, so i would imagine there is going to be a load of deals on everywhere.
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

Thank you! They have some things on their various websites that seem too good to be true at the price. Interesting it says non trading, wonder what they actually means in real terms?

Dad reckons the TVs won't be on sale now because of the Olympics, but I think it's worth holding out for a bit until his TV actually blows up.

Have a look at the samsung 32" - just bought one and very pleased with picture/sound - price good too @£280. see here http://www.froogle.richersounds.com/product/lcd-led-tvs/samsung/le32d550/sams-le32d550

On another issue why not register yr Dad's telno on the telephone preference service - this should reduce sales calls. Being cynical one wonders if there is a "mugs" list out there where companies such as this take advantage of? You can register by calling yr telephone supplier.

they're a very good company, i've used them many times.

their special offers usually aren't the best kit, but still perfectly OK!

We're registered with TPS and he still gets calls, the problem is he bought cartridges from them in the past and now he's bombarded. We get squillions of calls from abroad including silent calls from numbers that come up as junk calls when I google them, but because my parents are elderly they get in a twist about it and sit there going through people it could be who rung up, rather than going 'it was a sales call, let's leave it'. When the GP rang up I very nearly told her to do one as she wanted to speak to my dad but wouldn't say who she was, thank god I didn't tell her to s*d off!

Mr Thrifty I'm pleased you got good service, there are loads of people on various review websites complaining about them though! Plus I think when it's for a TV that we want to keep for the duration it's best to go through somewhere that sells more reputable goods.

Will have a look at the Richer Sounds one though, plus we have a store locally.

you can get some fine deals on amazon tbh - for example search for the Samsung LE32D403 for £220 - full HD ready, freeview, etc.

Samsung tvs are great, and seem to be very reliable. Had my 40" 1080p one for over 5 years now without any problems

I've been ordering, and receiving ink carts from IJT for years. They would phone me up and try and offer me extra stuff, too, but I just said to them "Stop calling me. When I want to buy something, I'll call you". And they stopped.

You could maybe try calling them and asking them to stop calling your father- worked for me.....

Are you sure that was from IJT Direct?

Look at their website to see what they sell - it certainly isn't vacuum cleaners and fold-up beds!
