Timing chain needs replacing

It is worth noting that any rights under the Sale of Goods Act are with/against whoever sold the thing to the current owner.
In other words, talking to Mini UK about a SOGA remedy is not likely to get anywhere, unless the car was purchased directly from Mini UK.
The OP needs to address SOGA issues to the selling dealer.
True but it's not the dealer who'd suffer from the adverse publicity0 -
Timing chains do stretch over a period of time. They should really be done every100k minimum. Used to own a Toyota with a cam-chain, and it stretched and jumped a cog so the engine 'dieseled' when idling. This had done 125k miles.Never Knowingly Understood.

Not the first GM Z22SE engines were/still are chain driven from 2001. Used by 8 other car manufacturers worldwide inc Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Vauxhall, Subaru, Chevrolet etc. Failures were due to a blocked oiler which was superceded with a new modded part. 8 year ago £550 then for a chain kit and replacement from Vaux dealer.
Take it very easy until you get a reply, if it rattles i wouldnt use.0 -

I never used to change timing chains. Every car I had years ago with ohv had a chain, I've got an 89 Renault with 110K on it, another A series, all still running fine.0 -

you would know on the a series at least they have a duplex chain then and not applicable to this engine discussed0 -
don't know about applicable but the old A series engine was fitted with simplex & duplex chains over its lifetime.
thats what i am saying they were double chains and would last a lifetime and never stretch
modern engines use single chains and get poor quality lubrication especially as in the mini design, its been designed badly (i did a google trawl of the problem in the usa)0 -
yep, but what I'm saying is that some (lots) of the A series engines were fitted with simplex chains as were lots of other cars from the era Mikey is talking about.0
