Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Id be honest, tell them its packed up and this is the cost to fix it. If you're feeling generous you might go halves. If you're not then id say what has happened and that they are welcome to have a broken model. Are they likely to pull out over a dish washer, its annoying but could have happened a week after they moved in.0

We bought a house with dishwasher included. The vendors made a point of saying how it fitted perfectly and they wouldn't dream of taking it with them. When we moved in, we discovered that, of course, it was broken.
We can live perfectly happily without a dishwasher and would have been far happier if they'd just told us it was on the blink.
Please, tell them. Even just tell them it doesn't work now, but you're looking into fixing it. It's really disappointing and annoying to move into a new house and only then find out your appliances don't work.
Sorry, but the fact that you need (want?) to buy a dishwasher for your new place isn't relevant, if you've sold them a house with a dishwasher then you should either supply one or 'fess up.0 -
We had a similar thing when we moved into our house - the seller said the lightbulb must have gone in the bedroom when we went to view. When we moved in I went to change the light bulb and the whole thing was stuck up with blue tac and there wasn't even a light there - I wasn't happy but couldn't do anything about it. What goes around comes around.....:mad:0
