Aww, pants aren;t much of a pressie are they?! I think of those things as necessity buys, not birthday presents. I always think presents should be fun and a proper gift. would you appreciate a toilet seat for your birthday?

I think buying a 2 yo pants and toilet training seat is up there with the iron I got for my 18th from my parents....

If you already have loads of toys I'd spend some time choosing a couple of really lovely special books. We got my dd a balance bike for her 2nd.

I do agree in principle that it sounds awful. However I was planing to get him some special character shorts, a character seat for the loo, a nice boys step for the bathroom and make it exciting for him.

You are both right that they are necesesities, however he will get numerous toys and other gifts from relatives and friends and we will be opening them all together. At Christmas my little boy was more impressed with the new toothbrush in his stocking that everything else lol.

As for books, that is something we buy regularly and have shelves full of them. We also visit the library together every week.

He has a scooter which he adores, a wooden train track with so many trains I can't count them, a garage with lots of cars buses etc, playmobile emergency vehicles, stickle bricks, duplo, mega blocks, a trampoline, ride on toys for the garden path, a pop up tent and tunnel, jigsaws and endless crafty things including paint and I make playdough.

Many of these items have been gifts from our very big family, or passed down from friends or our DD. Also found at car boot sales and charity shops so please don't think we have endless funds that we spend willy-nilly lol.

I just want him to have something to open that won't be a waste of money or adding to the hoardes of toys we have already. He often follows his big sister up to the loo and like's having a sit on there too. Hmmmm but now I am wondering if it really is a rubbish selection of gifts I've decided on :o.

What about a pull along cart (like you see the kids in US cartoons have). We got one for our grandson, who was 2 last week, and he loves putting various things (blocks, lego, cars, chalk, books, teddy) in it and taking them for a walk.
