Yodel over the mountains but not to your doorstep!

I'm a reasonable sort of bloke:A and I have a degree of patience:), but when it comes to the delivery company / courier Yodel, I have lost all patience:mad:! After ordering an Amcor air cooler from a company in Derbyshire and paying £20 for having it delivered the next working day, I thought nothing of it. Until the delivery day, Monday, came.
I received an email from Yodel saying my goods would be delivered between 0900 and 1730hrs. I waited in. At 1730hrs no goods. At 1810hrs I telephoned them at their main customer services. "The parcel is on its way, but we have subcontracted it to another courier, so it could be up to 2100hrs this evening".
2200hrs no goods. I telephoned again "The office is open between 0830 and 2000Hrs".
Tuesday...
I called Yodel at 1000hrs, after checking their online tracking system - which stated "Assumed Delivered". Yodel representative; "We don't know where the package is, we will have to contact the driver and start an investigation as to where it is" Me: "How long will that take?" Yodel: "up to 48hrs".:(
I called the supplier in Derbyshire and told them of the events. They were indeed apologetic and said they would contact Yodel. I heard back from the Supplier at 1330hrs, but with no real progress. They said they would keep in touch, which they duly did, both by phone and
email:).
Needless to say I don't pay £20 to have service like this:mad:! I waited in all day Tuesday, but to no avail. I called the supplier again and reluctantly, held them to ultimatum. If the goods were not on my doorstep by 1200 noon, Wednesday (some 42 1/2 hours late) I would cancel the order and demand a full refund of all my costs. They reluctantly, had to accept this. I told them Yodel had broken their contract with them and they should pursue a refund from Yodel!
Wednesday...

.
I called four other companies to enquire about air coolers (three didn't answer the phone - incredible in a recession!) At 1600hrs I contacted the fourth, in Preston. When asked, they told me that they used UPS and not Yodel. I asked for a unit to be sent to me and paid for Next Day by Noon delivery. Cost £9.99. The parcel arrived at 1000hrs the next day:cool::T:A:D! (I live in Greater London) Proof it can be done! I talked to the UPS driver and told him about Yodel and he shared his views, which were that he had ordered something and Yodel had been responsible for delivery. They had dumped his goods outside his door without signature and without a card:exclamati:shocked:!! The goods were worth £150 and were in easy view of thieves!
I went out at 1700hrs. Whilst I was out, Yodel turned up at 1845hrs (some 49 hours and 15 minutes late:rotfl:). Because of confusion of who the parcel was for, my brother accepted the goods. I returned at 2200hrs to find the parcel. My brother agreed to pay me the full costs for the air cooler, including transport:cool:. He said he would happily use the air cooler!!
So all's well that ends well:). BUT... Yodel cannot be trusted!! I have since put a blog on the internet about these events and with some further proof of how goods get treated if you want to see the blog, please ask me and I will furnish you with how to find it! (I'm not allowed to put a link here!)
I have now heard from friends (via FaceBook) of similar occurrences, where goods arrived damaged, or are lost / stolen, or arrive late.
By contrast, I can confirm I have never had cause to complain about UPS, TNT, DHL, DPD or ParcelLine. I have had complaints about City Link, mostly over their system, not because of loss or lateness. The Royal Mail appears to be a lottery, if you're in a bad area - hope and pray your stuff arrives. We're in a good area and I speak highly of the Royal Mail here. That said, there was an under-cover documentary on the Royal Mail a few years back and the findings were shocking:shocked:!
So, people, please be careful when you order stuff online or mail order, as to who is delivering it, because you might end up not receiving it! Check to see what couriers the company you've bought from use.
I would be pleased to hear from others of Yodel experiences. This company must be brought to book. If the public pays for a service then they should expect to get that service!
If you need a landline number for a local Yodel depot, here are the numbers. I don't know whether this is a full list, but I hope it's helpful. Home Delivery Network is the same company as Yodel!

over one delivery?
Yodel are a cheap service
UPS cost more
RM have a far greater loacalised infrastructure
many people could give similar storys for every carrier0 -
I just hate the fact the tracking can show delivered even before the packagewas delivered. I had a packet showing as delivered on Saturday and yodel onlydelivered it on Monday.
Lets not use quidco0 -
I hate Yodel with a passion, and completely understand your frustration.
My boyfriend ordered me three books from Amazon for my birthday - they were delivered by Yodel whilst we were on holiday for a couple of days. We live in an apartment block, with post boxes in the communal hallway on the bottom floor. Usually, we get a card if Royal Mail or similar can't deliver because we're not in - we expected Yodel to do the same, since their depot isn't far away.
We returned from holiday to find the Amazon delivery left on the floor in the communal hallway. The package was open. The gift wrap on the books was ripped open. My boyfriend was livid - he will now not order from anywhere who uses Yodel!
A brief search on Google shows that this is not an isolated incident, and it happens regularly to many people who's deliveries are 'taken care of' by Yodel. Shocking service and I can't believe they're still in business given the amount of complaints companies must have received from customers.LBM February 2011
Total Debt at LBM = £9,726
Current Debt = £2,267
Cleared = £7,459 (76%)0 -
That's absolutely shocking I thought mine was bad when they put my parcel in my recycling bin and didn't card me. I only found out my parcel was in there when my wife tried to put some stuff in the bin and asked what I'd been ordering.I'm a reasonable sort of bloke:A and I have a degree of patience:), but when it comes to the delivery company / courier Yodel, I have lost all patience:mad:! Just to add DHL are now part of Yodel."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

Only a bit of it, the main part is still the real DHL.0

Well DPD were supposed to collect my laptop yesterday and take it to our IT department ' oop north'. I waited in after cancelling a couple of site visits. A DPD van actually drove past at about 1230. I stupidly assumed he had missed the house and would be back soon. After a couple of minutes I went outside and noticed he was leaving a house about 100 yards away. He drove off before I got to him.
And they STILL haven't collected the bleeding laptop!!
Why can't couriers just do what they are contracted to do? And please, don't give me any of the old ' oh, they aren't well paid'.0 -
Oh God! If only I'd researched this company before placing my order with Matalan I might not have bothered. I'd never heard of Yodel before today. I paid extra money for next day delivery and have taken the day off work today to receive this delivery.
I have been tracking the order all morning having received a text and email to say my parcel was out for delivery from 08:02 this morning.
I checked my delivery status again at 12:30pm only to find my parcel has been "delivered" at 12:04pm with my surname as the signatory?! I have been in all morning and my doorbell has not rung once. So where has my parcel been delivered to and who has signed for it?
Trying to speak to someone at either Yodel or Matalan has been a challenge. I tried to email but just get the standard autoreply.
I've finally spoken to someone at Matalan who is looking into it for me and they are trying to get hold of the courier who supposedly delivered the parcel to me at 12:04. They are saying it may be an error and they hope the parcel is still out for delivery. I live in hope
This is a very stressful experience indeed as I have paid for £54.50 worth of goods I have not received, yet how am I to prove I never received them if someone has faked my signature/pretended to be me? However, I note from a previous post that Yodel have entered delivered on the status but then not delivered the item until a couple of days later. I also paid extra for next day delivery as I wanted the item in good time for a weekend away from tomorrow morning...
What a total shambles. I am not impressed at all  And on top of that I have been waiting to go out all day - I need to pick something up from town. It's now 3.10pm.0 -

so given couiers deliver well into the evening.
what was the plan?0 -
I've used UPS a few times via Dolce Gusto in Germany. Never had a problem. (Tracking is brill Germany to UK)
Yodel via o2 mobile/broadband no problem
Yodel via o2 Priority Moments one order never came!
Yodel via Argos - Right royal disaster - wrong addresses, wrong depot.
Royal Mail - can be naughty and leave stuff in the open!0
