Why is my tax credits renewal taking so long??

Has anyone had to wait the six weeks from renewing? and if so does it mean there is a problem or is it as they say at the tax credit office they are just very busy and it is being processed??

It can take a while for the renewal to fully go through, the time can depend if they are doing any (random checks ) on your account or not. You will get an award notice which will confirm its gone through & how much you'll be entitled to once its fully renewed.

At least you have had a renewal pack issued - mine is still not sent out - so assuming it may get to me by end of June and then another 6-8 weeks I will be waiting for my CTC until after September when she will have I hope started her 6th form (Non advanced f/e). Till then I am very frustrated as that money needed now.
  • I renewed my claim 6 weeks ago, was told not to phone until 1 June for an update, so called today and was told that my claim has still not being processed. I really find that hard to believe when others have been renewed in less time. The whole tax credit system is making me depressed tbh but I need the help towards my nursery. Twice last year they stopped my nursery money. I asked them on the phone today if there was something wrong with my claim or could I provide some further information to them but the guy said nothing was needed. I just wish they finish it soon I can't cope with the waiting :(

I sent my form back at the end of March, recorded delivery and they still haven't processed it. Apparently there is a computer problem because my previous claim wasn't closed properly, and the system can't cope with a new claim. I've made about 7 or 8 phone calls, and each time the person tells me they've sorted it out. I am concerned because they only backdate one month, so if it takes them 3 months to process a claim that's 2 months worth that they don't have to pay.

I posted mine on the 16/05/12...which I was worried about doing as I always ring but have been busy and didn't want to be waiting on the phone for ages and yesterday I noticed to small payments enter my bank account which I can only presume is from TC...unless the money giving fairy paid me a visit...which I doubt!

Last year even though I ran in May things didn't get finalised until late August...like its been said before it could just be they are doing random checks.

Renewed mine nearly 7 weeks ago, I rang and the girl said it had been selected for a random check for my salary to check that I had provided right information and to ring back again in 4 weeks if I had not had any paperwork.

Mine only took a week from receiving the renewal pack and ringing up to receiving last years underpayment. The paperwork arrived the day after I received the money.

Strange how it seems to vary so much from one person to another, hope you get it sorted soon.

It's 1 month from the date its received, not the date it's processed.

Have you phoned and asked them why?
