MIB claim

MIB, despite what its website may say will pay out if, :
No other insurance covers the loss.
The person responsible has been identified.
Other than this you have to make a special dispensation claim to them which is heard by a panel and decided upon at discretion.
If you have a valid crime number that will help.
The myth is they just pay out if you claim someone smashed your car up and drove off, they dont, for if they did everyone would just claim from them when they bump the car and make up a sob story.
If you have fully comprehensive, they will instruct you to claim on that first.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Again some of this is incorrect. The MIB will allow a claim even if you have comprehensive cover yourself.MIB, despite what its website may say will pay out if, :

and the driver doesn't need to be identified, either the driver OR the car must be identified0

Very true, even if it is beyond a basic partial reg number search a good PNC operator will be on to it in minutes."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I'm not sure what to do now, there is no identification of car or driver as basically what happened was that I was hit from the side, shunted into the next lane and by then time I realised what had happened I looked up and the car was zooming off into the distance. As I said, I got a partial reg and the police checked cctv and that was that. I've got a police ref number and am also fully comp on insurance. This was almost a year ago as well so don't know if they could check records at this point (I don't have the partial reg although I gave it to the police at the time).0

It doesn't look too good. It won't cost you to ring MIB and ask what your chances are of using them with no full id of the vehicle (explain what happened, and police involvement).
If MIB can't help, it won't be too late to make a claim off your own policy if you want to, (the one in force at the time of the incident), though that would be a fault claim, meaning paying your excess and losing some NCD if it's not protected.
(Though you may have issues with your current insurer if you haven't disclosed this incident to them)0 -

I have claimed through the MIB back in 2008/2009 and it was fairly straight forward..
Your Vehicle
This has to be claim via your own insurance company
(I lost my no claims bonus) our premium didnt go up too much tho.
Injuries / Loss of earnings ect.
You can claim these via MIB, I think the only situplation is that you had to contact the Police within 7 days of the accident.
When you get in touch with the MIB, tell them you want to make a claim under the "Untraced driver agreement".
The forms are easy to fill in and they will need they ask for a description/drawing of the accident, police ref numbers (all normal things you would tell your insurers after an accident).
They arrange for a medical, if there were personal injuries and ask for a disclosure to be signed to release your doctors/hospital notes.
Overall I think my claim from start to finish (cheque in bank) took about 1 1/2 years.
Either way ask for the forms, see what you think, if you can manage them on your own you won't have to pay fees to a company to do them~ LBM - July 2012 ~

yep, MIB will cover your car damage, what you can't do is go with your own company (maybe for speed/convenience) and then reclaim the costs from MIB.
Having said that, if you could find a credit hire/repair company to take it on then I think their costs would be payable0
