Hi,
My son wants to connect his latptop to the TV so the TV screen displays whatever would normally be on his laptop screen.
He has a Dell XPS 1330 - can you tell me the name of the cable to buy?
Many thanks

The best way to connect to a TV is using a HDMI lead which carries video and sound.
I'm fairly sure the pc has a HDMI port, just check, look for it,
but as debitcard said, the question is do you have a HDMI socket on the TV to connect to?
Look at the PC's HDMI socket and look for the same type on the TV panel.
If not there are alternatives to just carry video..

Looking at the laptop, it does have a HDMI slot. The TV also has one and that says HDMI IN3.
So, will this tell me which lead to buy? Are there different HDMI leads?
Many thanks.0 -

Good, it sounds like you have maybe 3 HDMI sockets on the TV,
Maybe some on the back and some on the side,
the lead type you want is this then,
these are examples of a 3m lead and a 5m lead, depends on the length you want.
i've used this particular 5m lead from ebuyer and it certainly works well for sound and video.

But you can get cheaper..

That's brilliant thank you. If it is very expensive, I might turn into a meanie and make him buy it out of his pocket money lol. Thanks again.0 -
LOL, that is a meanie
No, they aren't too expensive,
that 5 metre cable i linked to is £7.98inc. vat plus p&p
but you may want to have a look around to see what's available.
But make sure you get one long enough, otherwise your pc is cramped up too close to the tv

I checked the other link supplied by Toxteth - basically I've ended up with same spec cable - 5m for £3.39 including postage on ebay. Quite happy with that, son can now keep pocket money now. Seriously I thought they would be really expensive so was pleasantly surprised.
Thanks again.0 -
