LTSB Personal Income Insurance

Hello, have a problem with a claim on LloydsTsb.
Back in 1997, when taking out a mortgage at my local Lloyds Tsb branch, I also took out a personal income insurance, not a big one, but still it was about £9 a month and would return £200 a month upon illness or redundancy. In 2006 I cancelled the direct debit as I decided not to continue the insurance and besides that I'd never had any information or literature about the policy and decided it was a waste of money. Then last year after thinking about the cases of missold PPI, I decided to contact Lloyds Tsb and claim for missold Personal Income Insurance on the basis that it was never explained to me that I couldn't claim if I became ill as my employers paid full wage when sick.
Then in March this year I got a letter back from LTSB saying they couldn't find any information to who the premiums were paid to, but if I had any additional information, then forward it to them, so I explained it all again and showed them copies of old bank statements showing the premiums going out every month.
I heard nothing for a month, so rang LTSB claims department yesterday and had a chat with the guy who had been dealing with it. He said he had gone through all the paperwork he had and couldn't find the company that the premium payments went to, so couldn't help anymore. I explained that the insurance was a product sold in their branches in 1997 and was set up by them and not something I had set up. I explained that I never received any literature for the product, but assumed that if I needed to claim I just needed to speak to the local branch, but he says that he can do no more about the claim without me supplying more information.
Well I dont have anymore information, but I do think LTSB are reponsible for the miselling in the branch
How does anyone think the Ombudsman would judge this one?
