The chargeback scheme rules are that you must pursue the retailer first.
I advise keeping records of emails and phone calls so you have this evidence to present as necessary.
Chargebacks straightaway will just get rejected, so it's pointless even if you are really angry. It about as pointless as banging your head against a brick wall.

I have pursued III and logged a formal compliant with them, they have provided me with a reference number but had the cheek to say I won't get my money back regardless.

In this instance, just like the others on here, I requested my account closed but I requested this last year after they migrated from Halifax to their own in house trading platform which I didn’t like.

Chargebacks do work, used it before when a retailer went bust.

Visa is 120 days from the date of the transaction, I think mastercard is 90 days.

For you to recommend to just deal with III is pointless when they clearly incompetent, as numerous people have requested account closures on here yet still got charged.

You can pursue them but still raise the chargeback with your bank/credit card company as per the procedure, otherwise you risk missing the deadlines, then you will have to take it up with the FO/FSA etc.

These closed accounts being discussed - are they ones that were definitely closed (i.e. did you all check that your log-in details were no longer active on the iii trading site?)

Yes, I received an email confirming closure and stating that I would not be able to access my account after 30th June, 2012.
My login details did not work after that date.

It does appear insensitive, but surely you see the person taking the phone calls is not authorised to make a decision.

Me too (got a chargeback when peacocks went bust) but where the retailer is still operating the banks/rules expect you to pursue them first.
I expect most of us will get refunds within 2 weeks, so involving a 3rd party is not necessary although I totally understand anyone wanting it resolved instantaneously.

It's the VISA chargeback scheme rules.
    I don't think it's different for mastercard.
Go ahead and ignore them if you like.

As I said pursue them but still raise the chargeback with your bank/credit card company as per the procedure.

My bank (Nat West) will not deal with it, so I cannot do this.

I do understand that some people will STILL not listen to facts so I agree in some cases it's pointless even posting facts when people will not listen to them.

    See ya

I wasn't going to come back but I have just received an email from iii agreeing to my refund within about 28 hours of my request.
I've done a few chargebacks in my time and IME they run into months, so I just wanted to pass that timescale info on.

Had to call my bank Halifax a few times - kept being put through to debit people and getting cut off (and I did get around the 08 number cost). Finally got to someone who has indicated I should have my £20 back in my account by end of play today.

I've had them take the £20 fee unauthorised too.

Closed account in June, received email confirmation of closure from iii. Then on 3 October they take £20 from my account! Emailed them yesterday but no reply yet...

Let me know if you have any success.

I received an email more than 2 weeks ago from one of their staff stating my account would be closed. 3 days ago £20 taken from my account.

    Have written to them again.

I had a £20 debit card deduction despite being refunded the first quarterly charge months ago ?!*
My bank have taken the charge themselves and refunded it to me.

chazza - no wonder they didn't take you seriously - the FSA don't deal with complaints about financial business, its the FOS and it doesn't cost £300. I'd ask for a copy of the phone call with iii saying you won't get your money back as they have to investigate the complaint over the next 8 weeks before giving its final word and this would be evidence that it does not conform to FSA DISP.

Rather than wait 10 days and continue incurring charges, I have disputed the transaction with my bank and have been told they will put the £20 back.
Have also asked them to block any future transactions from these clowns.

It seems from earlier replies that being charged and refunded does not stop them from charging again in future quarters.

I will also be sending a formal complaint to their Glasgow address. Surely, they should not be holding debit card details on a closed account ? If necessary, will escalate to the Financial Ombudsman.
