Miss sold sentinel card protection

  • I have been a Credit Card Sentined member since 1998. I cannot remember how I joined but I'm fairly sure it was not linked to a Credit Card. The only reason I have stayed with them in recent years is to get loss of car keys cover.
I wrote to Sentinel saying "I believe the policy was missold" , without even giving any reason why I thought that.

A few days later I received a cheque for £680 - refunding all my subs back to 2008 !!:T (I can get key cover for £9 thru Camping & Caravan Club).

    Hi there

I too took a chance and adapted Martin's standard letter and sent it to Sentinel - no copies of statements or anything. I had originally been offered the cover with a Co-op credit card back in 1998 - for free in the first year I think - then I continued to pay every 3 years or so. In the last year they sent out an update on the policy saying that ID fraud was no longer covered. I had all my payments refunded + 8% interest. No probs. I think they see the writing on the wall so definitely worth submitting a claim.
  • I had Sentinel card protection a few years ago on a co op visa card until I cancelled it. I have rung Sentinel today for their address and will be sending a letter to them. However the person at the end of the phone said that Sentinel have not been in trouble before.

I wonder if they are stalling?

  • I am in the process of claiming the refund of my Sentinel payments from Barclaycard for the period 1993 -2005. I contested the first figure they quoted and they apologised for the error and have sent me a new figure which again I'm not happy with . Has anyone any idea how much a standard Sentinel Gold cover cost in the 1990's ? I've tried asking Sentinel but they are not interested. How can I trust Barclaycard to actually come up with the right figure? Any pointers would be appreciated.
  • I paid £32 for five years cover in 1992. I renewed for £40 in 2002 for five years. Sorry I don't have the 1997 renewal cost, but it should be somewhere between these two. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  • I had cover since 1998 until 2014 with Sentinel. When I rang the helpline they told me that I had taken my policy through BT and they have elected to 'go it alone'. Has anyone else had this and if so where do I go from here? Thanks
