Well, ok, but shouldn't you have ensured that the product you "lent" him was suitable for the job??

Yes, you were a good samaritan, :T:T:T, but that crap is useless in 90% of flats, as a carrier of the stuff you should know that.

I take my hat off to you for trying to help, but the common condemnation of later posters is simply pathetic:mad::mad::mad::mad:

You offered him snake water, when it failed what did you expect??
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Good for you stopping OP. Too many would just drive on by. I hope this experience will not deter you from helping another stranded motorist?

That gunk is not very reliable, rather than replacing it I would suggest you get something like this > http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-Tyre-Repair-Kit-380421/dp/B001QUN9UQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338411185&sr=8-1

You can get the gunk stuff in the pound shops btw for your replacement. Might be inclined to buy the proper Holts stuff though...

Presumably the OP, and many others who buy this stuff, didn't know as much as you and thought that it would work.

I would have thought that a carrier of the stuff would be exactly the sort of person who _didn't_ know that it was useless in most cases, otherwise they wouldn't bother buying it and carrying it.

I've used it, it works well if used correctly.

    Hi all,

    Many thanks for the replies.

As per my post I did offer both a lift to town or a tyre retailer FIRST.

The Gent wanted to use the kit. To be fair to the kit it did inflate the tyre - but the tear was huge! No kit in the world would have sealed it. The tear was hidden by the flat bit and not visable until the gas lifted the tyre.

In regards to me having the 'correct equipment' to cover someone else’s foolishness for not having a working spare (He was driving on the spare due to a previous puncture and had 'been meaning to do something about for ages') Not having any tools, emergency kit or water in his car. But If it’s MY responsibility to have everything they need if I stop......... next time I will just not bother.

Checking my finances I am just going to keep the unit in the car for now.

If Karma bites me, I’m due lol

    :D

I have to deal with people like this older gent all the time. People who are all sweetness and light when they want something but rude and unhelpful otherwise.

Had a good giggle at the point where you left him at the roadside. I probably shouldn't have done!

    Fab tale.

To make my day .... how long would the man have had to walk to pick up a mobile signal?

Walking 30 to 35 mins -However he was near the Farm which you can see from the road, and I bet he would have headed there to use their phone - 15 min walk. However they were away for the day (I was there to check their animals/house while they were away) So he would have had to walk back up the lane and then in to town about a hour if he took the farm detour.

The OH did the evening run to check the animals and house. The gents car was gone so someone had come and got him

With that you need to take the wheel off, ream out the hole, and insert a rubber string into it. I'd still use a can of tyreweld instead, or slime with a mini compressor.
