I am a teacher and I do find rules like this a bit bonkers. When I was at school which is only seven years or so ago we had to where a shirt and tie (long or short sleeved) and jumpers were optional so long as the shirt was tucked in properly. In very hot weather we got messages during form time telling us we could take our ties off.

Where I now work they have polo shirts and sweatshirts which are again optional. I think this is much better as even our kids complain they are too hot!

MY school had blazers. We were expected to wear them, but if we took them off due to hot weather etc, we had to have them on us at all times (presumably so we could throw them on to represent the school at short notice). Could always suggest that to the school as a compromise.

No idea if my daughter's school makes them wear their blazers through the day. The first thing they do when they get to school is take the blazers off and hang them on their coat pegs. Daughter's cardi also seems to spend a lot of time in her school bag during the hot weather. Obviously, the full gear is there for whenever it's needed - and worn en route, external trips, etc.

My daughter's school has gone mega strict on school uniform and I must admit I think it is extremely positive. The kids are so busy worrying about their ties being on straight and shirts tucked, that they forget that they used to worry about who had the coolest trainers and how short their skirts could go before their knickers were flashed. My advice is bear with it and support the policy, it will slacken off a bit once it is established. So at my DD school they are not taking the rulers out to measure the skirt length or sending 1st years to the school nurse to get the wake up washed off.

We didnt wear ties or blazers but we did have to ask permission to take our jumpers off in hot weather which some of the teachers used to deny. I believe someone did faint and their parents complained so I think the rule was changed. My school has subsequently changed its uniform (state school trying to look like a private school) and they now wear blazers so not sure if rule still stands.

When I was at secondary school (left 15 years ago!) We had to wear blazers and had same rules, although I think we were allowed to take them off at lunch time etc - or we did anyway lol!

I never had a problem with wearing it, to be honest, apart from due to the cost it was always too big, so I'd get plenty of wear out of it!

I fail to see how having a uniform shows no respect for the pupils. And the OP doesn't mind the uniform, only how the school is policing it during the hot weather.

Totally agree about adapting in summer. In my school we were allowed short sleeves and open necked blouses in summer. The boys school still had to wear ties tho.

My point was about an antiquated & inflexible uniform, rather than a sensible dress code, which can be adapted in hot or cold weather.

They are allowed them off while they are working so whats the problem ? Once again parents undermining school rules , what are you ging to do when they go to work and have a bad day ?

At a certain point in the year we were allowed to remove ties while at school and roll our sleeves up lol
