Wedding Dress Fittings

Hi
Am looking for some advice please.
I am about to have my 1st dress fiting - there is some confusion at the mo as to when this is either the end of next month or next week.
Can someone explain how fittings work. How many do you have? and how far apart? How close to the wedding is the last one? how much weight can you lose between them?
I have lost just over 1.5 stone and was hoping to get to at least a 2 stone loss by the 1st fitting achievable if its the end of the month - maybe not for next week:(
Anyway, I was hoping to get to 3 - 3.5 stone lighter before my wedding at the end of August. Could I still lose more after the fittings start? Or do you have to stay around that weight.
Probably stupid questions - but any advice gratefully received.

the dress shop said i need to go 6 weeks before the wedding for my first fitting, id imagine whatever size you were then theyd make the dress to fit that so you couldnt change measurements before the wedding but id speak to the seemstress as they maybe able to make it smaller again nearer the time, it depends how busy they are i supposeI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0

Thanks Bubbles.
The fittings for my bridesmaid dresses are 6 weeks before the wedding. Mine just seems so far in advance.

I'd had mine 6 weeks. Have you told your dress shop about the weight loss? They may want to postpone your fittings for a while if this is the case.First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14

Thanks Becca.
I only mentioned it vaguely at the time we purchased the dress (a sample size 14) my mum has coordinated the fittings.
Am tring to get my head around how much a dress can be altered. Somone has told me two sizes - so that would bring it down to a size 10.
Not sure if I am panicking over nothing... but guess I don't want to be todl I have to stay at the weight I am now (if any of that makes sense).

Most dresses can be altered 3 sizes smaller or one bigger.I'm having my final fitting as close to the wedding as poss, and I lose another pound or two after that, so what! It'll be fine
But then mine isn't strapless - I hear that strapless dresses have to fit *exactly* on the chest or they will gape. 7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

I had my first fitting MONTHS before the wedding, but that's because I knew my dress would be quite a lot of work and I was very organised early on to avoid last minute panics. I'm going for my final fitting and taking the dress away this Friday - 3 weeks before the wedding. I'm fairly confident I won't change size or shape between that but have been recommended to try it on a day or two before just to be sure!
If you're planning on losing that much extra weight (congrats btw, very impressive!) I would say hold off on the fittings.Even if they just change the length that could change as your body shape changes and the way the dress hangs then changes.0 -
My first fitting?? Well I am handing the dress into the seamstress 7 weeks before. That will take 2 weeks (ish) so first fitting @ 5 weeks before. Hopefully last fitting 2 weeks later? At 3 weeks. That sounds about right...
Hmmm hopefully won't need any more fittings or adjustments, or will be running out of time!:T0 -
Oh dear - my worst fears have been confirmed and my 1st fitting is next Thursday  Now feel physically sick.
My dress is a size 14 and fitted at the time I bought it, sometime last year. At that point I weighed 12st 6. I now weigh 10st 12 (so have lost just over 1.5 stone) . Whilst its a loss I really wanted to get to about 8.5 stone. So am nowhere near that. Very worried that I will have to stay at the weight I am now.
I know I'll be able to shift alot more between now and the wedding. But not sure if I'll be allowed now. I don't want to look like this on my wedding day.

dont get upset yet you may not have to stay the same which i may add is a fine weight to be anyway!
is your dress lace up? if so it will allow for a bit more leeway on size aswellI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
When I was trying on dresses in one shop, the lady in said they do a couple of fittings (I can't exactly remember at what intervals) but I do remember she said they do one dress fitting at 5 weeks before, and after that they tell you not to lose any more weight.
If the dress is a lace up corset at the back, I think it has a bit of leeway in fitting - I tried on a size 16 in the shop and bought a size 12, and they both fit (although the 12 is a little snug at the moment!)
The times might depend on the individual shops and how many people they have available to work on the dresses. I think it would be a good idea to give them a call before your fitting and tell them your worries, and see what they say - they are the experts after all!
You have done absolutely brilliantly with your weight loss so far, and you really shouldn't worry as I'm sure you will still look stunning on the big day
