John Lewis price match ?!

Hi there
not sure if i have posted in the correct place but want to know if anyone has experience of the john lewis price match policy .

last week i recieved a price match refund from john lewis for the amount of £45.00 but have notice today that the item has been reduced by a further £35.00 on ther own website !!! I have spoken to john lewis who have told me that although within the 28 days they will only match price once?! is this really true ?!
the adviser told me prices go up and down all the time (really lol) and that to claim the price match early on in the 28 day period doesnt always pay !!!!! wow

so what have other people experienced in this situation with john lewis ?
thanks:D

I don't have experience of John Lewis price match. But if it's in their T & C's that they won't match twice then there's nothing you can do.

You agreed to pay the original price and with many shops you would be stuck with that. Maybe you should just be glad that John Lewis have a price match policy at all and that you got some money back.

If you have ever watched items on Amazon the prices are moving constantly.

I'm not sure that there's anything in their pricematch policy that precludes more than one pricematch within the 28 day period. I've certainly taken advantage of this on a couple of occasions, the most recent was last year. Their T&Cs could have changed since though.

    The usual MSE complaint:

"I bought something and it went down in price and the retailer did nothing. How dare they."

    The JL MSE complaint:

"I bought something, and it went down in price and I got the money back, but then the price went down AGAIN! How dare they!"

Never try the stock market, or you'd be getting angrier faster than you can complain.

Except it's not that at all.

John Lewis advertise a Price Match promise. "we'll match the price when you buy, or refund the difference for up to 28 days after you've purchased from us when you make a price match claim."

Now they seem to be trying to impose further terms and conditions on that promise.

The query is essentially about modifying terms and conditions of a contract after the event.

That seems to give the detail about this policy. Nothing there (that I can see) that limits price matching to a single instance.

OP, why not just put in another pricematch online showing the price you paid (minus the refunded amount) and the new price as it is now.

  • Strictly speaking, the price match policy is against competitor pricing, not their own. Is the item reduced elsewhere, and in stock?
