Firefox is freezing on practically everything for me. I am now only using it for MSE, and then chrome (sandboxed) for everything else except work and the bank, for which I use IE (not sandboxed) to keep things separate and therefore more secure.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
It sounds amazing, until you realise that no actual person's life expectancy is going up by anything like that. Life expectancy is much higher for people born now than for people born in the 1930s or whatever, so as the oldies keep dying off and babies keep arriving, the average will rise.
Would that that last bit were true.:(
I've just been teaching a class about death rates from heart attacks in men and women at different age groups and they looked at the very high death rates in over 85-year iold women compared to men. It kind of sobered them up a bit when they realised it was because the men had mostly succumbed earlier and weren't around in that age bracket to compete with women's death rate.
There's disturbing evidence building up that life expectancy's going to be hit by the stranger-danger snack-guzzling couch-potato indoor gamers we're bringing up these days. There will be more outliers and plenty of 100+s in the near future but the momentum isn't all one-way IYSWIM.:o
I use Camino (instead of Firefox) and Safari on my mac as I'm running Tiger software now. V happy with them.
At work can only use IE and Firefox as Chrome interferes withother software. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

But if the young 'uns have lower life expectancy, then why is it rising so fast? (Not my area of science - please enlighten me)Do you know anyone who's bereaved? The overall life expectancy of individuals is certainly increasing at the moment. Using the Ogden tables, the life expectancy for a male aged 50 increased by 2.05 years between 2007 and 2011.
If you want to track an individual who was 50 in 2007 and 54 in 2011, his expected average age at death in 2007 was 83.4 and in 2011 it was 85.5.
That's nearly all due to improvements in mortality rates over those 4 years. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I've long thought it would be an interesting premise for a distopian sci-fi book to have a bunch of adults that just didn't die, on the grounds that they could harvest organs etc, however people continued to have children and so forth. The result would be a very large scale discontent over the ownership of houses etc. I think I've been hanging out on here for too long. Being a baby-boomer I can hardly blame myself. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
