I used to do glass painting many moons ago (it was part of my treatment for PND).......weirdly, the designs on there look spookily like the little jars I painted and sold at a boot sale!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Must not try and take things personally on forums, after all people don't know me right? :-/
Does anyone have any forum etiquette rules they would like to share? I am a novice when it comes to the use of forums but in my short experience it can seem like people can be very snidey to one another, especially if you were silly enough to write a post or two in the marriage and family section. Lesson well and truely learnt!

Well, I spoke to Clarkes head office and relayed what excellent service we had yesterday and they have promised to let the manager of the store know and they took a note of the name of the sales assistant too.
The manager will already know before head office contacts them anyway as ex husband rang the store itself and passed along his thanks and is sending them a box of chocolates. He did manage to find out more information which is quite amazing...the sales assistant is a student who only works part time, so her intuitiveness (is that even a word?), calmness and knowledge of what is needed with an autistic child is even more amazing and brilliant.
But back to school today and to say they have mucked up is an understatement....to get youngest into High school, the school had months of training from the outreach service attached to the specialist Autism school, there was lots of preparation meetings between myself and the staff, the staff and youngest and lots of visits so he could get to know the classrooms, the routine etc.
Well, he is cross sited to the other high school this school year and we found out this afternoon. The other school have had no training, they have no special arrangements made (he is statemented and is supposed to have one to one..there is none available as the staff were unaware!), youngest does not know the classrooms, staff, routine..nothing and they obviously don't know him and his weirdness.
So, one major naughty word up by the powers that be. I can't blame the normal teaching staff as they tried their best to make sure he would not be cross sited (as in writing in very big letters on all his paperwork - MUST NOT CROSS SITE or NOT SUITABLE FOR CROSS SITING) and it is not the fault of the staff at the other school but the fault of some number cruncher who doesn't actually deal with the students themselves.
So this afternoon was spent in frantic meetings with the SENCO at his normal high school (who only found out this morning that youngest was cross siting) and then frantic meetings with the learning suport boss and head of year 10 at the other school..we finally got out of the school at 4.30, having started everything at 1.
But this is not fair on the staff at the other high school, youngest is not like a 'typical' autistic child, he is diagnosed as complex for a reason...he is very complex and what may work or what may trigger usually with an autistic child, is likely not to work or trigger with him, hence the many months of preparation and training when he started at high school.
The rudimentary planning for tomorrow (as he would have his first cross site lesson first thing in the blooming morning wouldn't he!), is that he will be met at reception by the head of year 10 and an old school friend of mine from the learning support department and will be taken to his class and introduced to the teacher...and then it will be all played by ear after that!
Luckily James is lesson free tomorrow but still has to go in to school, so he will be on hand to help out if needed with advice on how to handle him, calm him and watch out for youngest's signs of stress and to escort youngest back to his normal school after the lesson (yep, vulnerable child who is not supposed to cross site due to his vulnerabilities does not even have an escort arranged...social services would crucify me if I did the same!)
It is absolutely crucial everything is got right the first time because with youngest, if it goes wrong and he gets stressed and goes into meltdown, you never get him back, he would refuse to step foot in the place again...as his first primary school found out.
ARGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHWe made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. Post on other boards?! I used to have time to post on this one but these days just following this thread is a full time job...
Put it this way:
NPT1: 27.11.2009 - 05.03.2010 but only 2447 posts (two after that date as thread wasn't closed)
NPT2: 04.03.2010 - 02.12.2010 but only 6398 posts
NPT3: 02.12.2010 - 16.07.2011 10,000 posts
NPT4: 16.07.2011 - 15.01.2012 10,000 posts
NPT5: 15.01.2012 - 29.05.2012 10,000 posts
NPT6: 29.05.2012 - present almost 8,000 posts
So we were took over a year to do our first 10,000 NPT posts (say threads 1 and 2)
Then 8 1/2 months to do our next 10,000
Then 6 months to do our next 10,000
Then 4 1/2 months to do our next 10,000
It's taken just over 3 months to do 8,000 at that rate we'll get to 10,000 before 4 months.
We appear to be getting gobbier. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? That's handy because I get a kick out of putting them together. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
