3 kilos of french beans today and another 2 kilos of courgettes. I need bean recipes!!!!!!

    Blanche and freeze the beans.

For very fresh courgettes, cut them into very thin ribbons (I use a potato peeler) and marinade in a simple vinaigrette made with lemon juice, olive oil and salt. It should be a bit more acid than usual, perhaps 3:1 oil:lemon juice.

It's an okay dish with supermarket courgettes but a fricking awesome one with very fresh ones from the garden.

It's interesting how I was the world's biggest AH every exam season. Do exams cause me to be an AH or does me being an AH cause exams? It's one of those causation/correlation things.

If I were not a NP I would suggest do not question this too closely - you run the risk of finding you are an AH all of the time however during exam season the usual generous forbearance is set aside and Mrs Generali is more honest about her feelings towards you.

Re Uni allowance...mine will be getting zero and will be expected to get a part time job to cover extras. I don't have the money to give them an allowance of any sort.

But yours would get the full means-tested maintenance loan, wouldn't they? Whereas some NP have kids who wouldn't, I imagine. (Although I must admit I have no idea how the system works and am merely going off hearing the means-tested bit mentioned in previous conversations.)

I did preface my comment to GDB by saying I was assuming non- means tested element only and no uni bursary or grant.

For limited income families, there is a government funded grant of nearly £3000 in addition to the loan and universities have similar grants of £2000 towards accommodation and expenses.

Roughly speaking the final quarter of the student maintenance loan is means tested (so outside London for students living away from home the £3575 increases to upto £4760) But for the lowest income families, some of the loan turns into a grant.

So assuming everything else is equal, it could be a level playing field.

    Good point well made Spirit.

To be fair I am a bit of an ar se at the best of times, whether that means I deserve to have an ice cream maker thrown at me is a different matter.

    What is it?

There was meant to be a quote in there :o

It is (supposed to be) a non-stick doughnut tray. From the perhaps once that I used it, whilst it may be coated in teflon, I seem to remember that it was quite tricky to prise the cooked doughnuts from it. Other than that it is great.

    I don't know, do you?

If you are English then in many people's eyes (not mine) you have a strong indicator that you lack passion.

Maybe it's an Aussie thing: my mate married an Aussie girl and she used to throw water glasses at him on a fairly regular basis. Maybe it's just that Aussie women are better at throwing than most.

From my days at Lakeland I have one of these:judge-non-stick-mini-doughnut-cake-tin-pan-baking-tray-2367-p.jpg

    Apparently, it is a judge-non-stick-mini-doughnut-cake-tin-pan-baking-tray.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I remember a French joke about a couple spotted making love. The joke is too tedious to recall, but the punch-line is "Elle n'est pas morte; elle est Anglaise."
