I'm jealous - we chose our dishwasher because it was black, paid at least 100 extra for this. It is very noisy and you have to wash all the dishes first if you want them to come out clean, other than that it is great.
No I forgot - when it was a few months old it failed and it took more than 2 months to be repaired.lostinrates wrote: »Thank you to silver car who told me to get a QUIET dishwasher. Parent bought it, (could not stand not having one) and i said that quiet was important. Its so quiet that when i have been in the room with it its almost not audible. Its quiter than my quiet washing machine, which is drowned out by a tap running.
Its certainly going to be easy to live with.. And it did an amazing job.

Timately i would like integrated. But finished kitchen not going to be here for some years, so we had to decide on proper door or not. We went proper door, because if it lasts that long i will have a gap left for it and fit door when we eventually replace.
So i was not too fussed about colour. Its stainless steel colour.0 -

People who haven't lived in Australia may not have seen eucalyptus fire, but because the trees are very oily, they release oil and this can make the sky look as though it is on fire as it arcs between vegetation. In normal circumstances it gives the air a blue tinge and is how the Blue Mountains were named.
Lots of gum trees in there, paper barks mostly. On a hot day you can smell the eucalyptus oil in our house let alone in the bush!
The thing is, being in Sydney and also being quite a small national park, it's not like a huge fire front can develop unseen like happened prior to Black Saturday. If there is a decent fire we'll be evacuated but the chances of me burning to death are somewhere between remote and nil.
I've never seen a gum tree fire and I hope I never will. As we plan to stay in Aus for the foreseeable I suspect I will at some point, especially as I want to buy acreage before too much longer, hopefully the coast side of the Great Dividing Range.0 -
Moving to the Euro zone not looking like such an attracive option at the moment?!
Is the climate similar to provence or is it a bit hotter in summer with less in the way of snowy mountains near by in winter?I think....0 -

The climate is similar to the south of France only more humid and without the snow: it never snows in Sydney and we get a frost perhaps once a year.
In the Blue Mtns (where it does snow most winters) there are signs warning that ice is slippery!0 -
It's raining here today.... been out for a walk, twice. Just a mile or so round trip each time, beach/back.
Can't go out in the rain - it's pointless, you just get wet. LL's gone out, with a visiting friend, as they can afford to sit in a bar all day ... drinking/chatting .... and have somebody to drink/chat with. Me ... I'd be sitting on some cold/wet step looking at a wet beach if I went out. Done that enough times to know it's not what I want to do today0 -

My friend has re-emigrated back to Australia. Lived over here for years, but started a family and thinks that they have better prospects over there as the economy has more potential.
For his leaving do we went to Malaga for a lad's weekend away (saw a shop/business there called Generali and took a photo to send you but realised you must be perfectly well aware of it). Had a great time, but realise it'll be a heck of a long time before we meet again.
He's doing the right thing in his circumstances I feel. And the world is getting smaller anyway what with email and facebook.:oThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
fine drizzle here. but just enough to stop me from going out and picking from the allotment and starting the winter spinach.
Need to get back into the groove of veg growing for next year. thankfully weather was dire this year.

This was what I got yesterday. Vacuum packing food so it lasts longer in the fridge and freezer (maybe good for singletons who don't want to eat everything in 2 days?)0 -

Just got back from the cafe, now in NW10 office, and after asking a customer who was going to the off license/mini store whether she'd get me some bleach and a pack of Marlboros for me, then duly giving her a £20 note, she returned with 2 bottles of bleach (58p each), 20 Marlboro lights (£5.00) and put £9.80 change on the table.
I've lovingly broached this with her, mentioning explicitly that I gave her a £20 note, when she pulled a bottle of wine out of her pocket, telling me she'll 'pay tomorrow'
I'm not going down tomorrow, and I'm certainly not very happy with her for doing this!:mad::mad:
Why should I be seen as the soft touch?
Oh, and I got told off by another Cllr for swearing at a parking attendant who was putting a ticket on my car (with a blue badge on full display) for being on a double yellow.I'll sort that on Monday!

She's a customer, and you asked her to do your shopping. I'm sure you'd want her to have a bottle of wine as a treat for doing that for you. It seems only fair.
By the way, I'm sorry to hear that you're disabled. I didn't realise. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Misskool, is the vacuum packing fiddly?
I did a mass bish some weeks ago of tupperware lids with jo boxes and boxes with no lids. It was painful. How can one grow attached to plastic box lids?
It was light drizzle this morning, not heavy enough to stop us moving the electric fencing.. Sure easier with a gang of people but fun just the two of us. The horses now have about double the space. Its premature, and the fatties might have to come off it for a bit but very old horse needs more and as we have pencilled in an autumn date for her leaving us i want her to get as fat as she likes and do something she loves every single day from now on. If she developes health related issues we just bring the date forward, and the decision is easier and more swift. The summer grazing has been odd, like manageing spring or autmn grass all year. (the worst sort for fat horses). Last years mild winter was a blessing with no heating, but a good cold one would be better for the land, the horses (presuming old girl goes) and for getting rid of 'bugs'.
