Anybody see the start of the paralympics?
Couple of questions hanging in the air. Did public transport keep running late enough to get everybody home and did half the world switch off the visual feed when the nude statue got wheeled in?
I got home at 2.30am:eek:. I missed the train that I was planning to get, but did get in eventually. Leaving we were queue jumped by Lily Cole, but it didn't do her any good because she still ended up on the same train at the same time. Plus everyone was saying "was that Lily Cole who just queue jumped?" then going straight onto social networking sites to talk about her.
The ceremony was amazing, but I have to say without a commentator saying what was going on I was chuffing clueless about big chunks of it.
With the athletes parade, people used it as a chance to go get a meal, get a drink, go to the loo etc and to be in the stadium when their favourite teams arrived. Behind us there was a huge group of supporters - family members we think - and when Ireland came in they went absolutely bonkers. All of team Ireland were looking up and waving to this group of noisy nutters and they seemed to be having a great time. Then when Nepal came in a small group of men started cheering like crazy - much less noisy than Ireland but for per capita noise production they were up there.
We couldn't see Stephen Hawking as we were behind the umbrella stage - but hey - the delights of cheap seats. Glad we did it and parts of it were absolutely amazing - the people on the springs; the guy with the torch; the flypast; the fireworks; the audience singing "I am what I am"...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Has this actually happened? I know there's a potential problem, eg link but helium balloons seem as popular as ever in the colonies. Maybe He is being rationned as a super secret squirrel part of austerity.
BTW, I started a new job on Monday: back to investment banking. It's nice to be back to the plush offices, fruit and biccies in the kitchens, drinks in the board room on Friday evenings with the traders. We are a very rare beast too: an investment bank that has neither been bailed out by the Government nor is being done for Libor manipulation. There's a very nice view over the harbour from one window and down to Botany Bay from the other which whiles away the hours.
Pushing the boundaries of NPness now Mr G...does that mean on the rest of the board you will stop defending retail bankers rights to charge a monthly fee for having our money for free and start defending the vital role investment banking plays in the world economy to maintain our living standards etc?I think....0 -
I've not taken the slightest bit of notice of the paral*. I didn't know when the opening ceremony was on either. I've got no telly at all at the moment.... should have that sorted by the weekend, then I'll have a telly in my bedroom ... and a drawer of scoffs ... a remote .... a laptop ..... all's good.0

We are looking for something similar to replace the old Mazda and have been thinking about the Honda Jazz.
http://www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/honda/jazz/hatchback/review
(this is by no means a recommendation, just an idea)
Economical, spacious for its size, holds value, scores high in reliability charts and most importantly, Mrs. Wheezy agrees.
I'd never drive anything Jap; the ride is too hard.
OH used to have a Pug 206, and that was nice. We did something like 100,000 miles in it over 3 years with no problems. I don't know what the (Newer) 208 is like, though.

Previously had a wrx 2 litre turbo, good fun, not so good on fuel. Was a right bucket but so fast. Got over that chapter and got rid. 4WD in winter in Scotland is handy but not worth having a 4x4 all year for the month or so bad weather we may get.
All i hear about 206's is head gaskets going. Same with mg zr. Would never get a car like that.:eek:Living frugally at 24

Ours was a 1.6 GLX; there's never been a problem with them.
The 1.1 and 1.0 Corsa have always been the biggest problems.
I'm looking forward to getting my new car on Saturday, as it's got the same engine as mine now, but has to be so much nicer!

PA52 SYY was the 206; new in January 2003, sold March 2006, still in the family)
LN53 VGV was my 406; new in September 2003, sold July 2009 at 422,000 miles to a company we own (still in use as a taxi, has 550k-ish miles on it)
The Escort (R627AKO) we paid £400 for in 2009 and ran for 3 months.
The photo was taken in Stansted, Essex, where we lived from 2005 to 2007. The property is rented out to a family member.
I've owned an Audi A4 2.0 TDi (06), Audi A6 3.0 TDi Avant (07) between these
Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCi Titanium was my first 'proper' music car. Registration no. was RY07 CYJ, and we sold it in March 2010 with 216,000 miles on it. It was black.
S-Max no.2 was L16 LAH, purchased new from Dagenham Motors on March 1st 2010, sold in September 2011 with 170,000-ish miles on. (See here) The photo was taken in Yubileiny, Moscow Olb, Russia in June 2011, whilst on a trip for Junior Eurovision Song Contest Russian national final (see here). L16 LAH belongs to the original partner when we were 'WildEn Media's daughter.
S-Max no.3 is (nearly was) EO61 XVB, purchased new from Gates of Harlow on 1st September 2011. It's going to auction next week as I get my new one on Sat. (See here) It's got 104,916 miles on it.
Nothing too exotic here; the photo was taken in the ice outside our NW10 office.
I'll post up pics of my XF when I've got it.

Not venturing this on the main board with an immigration topic but I am fed up with the Tories for playing politics with people's lives. They could easily have supended the LMU from taking new foreign stdents and got them to revalidate existing ones but instead they did something draconian to garner headlines and get the headlines that 'finally something is being done about immigration'...and s*d those who have spent tens of thousands and spent 3 years studying and are now unable to complete their courses. Gesture politics is abhorent but when it directly srews up peoples lives in order to get a headline I can't think of NP words to describe matters.I think....0
