PN I reckon we're about the same age. I worked in old people's homes when I was a student and I have no fear of them. The staff are positive caring people (or at least I like to think I was).:)
You can marshall your reserves to enjoy good health for a good bit longer. There was a barber who came round and shaved those that wanted it. He was older than some of the residents which worried him sometimes.
But I realised it's attitude.
If you want to live independently for as long as possible, no-one can ask for more.
I worked in a home when James was a small baby (6 weeks old)......I have told my boys to shoot me if I need to go into a home!:D
Right, not been here for a few days, I have no tattoos, only one set of piercings on my ear lobe which are very rarely used and my expected life is to 80.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
You better do spirit. At least.
Its depressing but, i am starting to tidy the pelagoniums up for autumn now, then will bring them in soon i guess. The only thing stopping me is the possibility of an Indian summer. On the plus side, as they have hardly exhausted themselves in the summer weather, with the new heating going in then they will probably be cheerful through the down season too.0 -

Barking mad. Agas/ ranges make the best toast, then a fire and toasting fork. We decided that it was too expensive to install an aga or similar just to use as a toaster though. A rare shot of common sense in the rates household.
I HATE rotary toasters. No matter how you set them up the toast is always undercooked on the first pass and then burned to a cinder on the second.0 -
There's no taboo about not mixing sweet and savoury on the same dish. American breakfasts would have jam (jelly) and bacon etc. all on the same plate.
I don't recall grits.
Having said this, I find haggis tasty and have had (eel) pie and mash since living in London and very much enjoy it.
Never found any distinctive Surrey food though!
Smoked eel is amazing, but the thought of a jellied eel in a pie makes me feel queazy. I don't think I could keep it down.0 -

We never had any choice over the setting, but ours at school seemed to do ok.
They mainly fed us toast.0 -
101 for me. It seems unlikely given my rather wild youth.0

I've eaten jellied eels in a dish once and that'll do me! How a food can be slimy and bony and supposedly enjoyable beats me.
Can eat most things in a pie, even kidneys.
Haven't had bread and dripping. Not even tempted.lostinrates wrote: »I want a rotary toaster like we had at school.
I had to google this. I can remember a rotary dial telephone and we've got a rotary drying line but never seen a rotary toaster. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

We had jellied eels at my first wedding.......HID #1 being an East End girlie. I think my Dad was the only person from my side who ate any, and he said he enjoyed them but as he was brought up in the War, and educated in a bomb shelter etc etc he would probably have eaten anything 'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

They always have one in the foyer of Hampton Inns (and other similar chains) in the U.S. for when you get your complimentary brekkie.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
WIN!!
Flattie was due to help somebody move today .... and went out... then randomly reappeared 3 hours later to say somebody would be over to view the room .... 20 minutes' notice, I was still in my jim-jams, stuff all over the room - so I had to get up/dressed, clear the room completely, take my rubbish out and bugg4h off (didn't have to, but I didn't want to sit cluttering up the place while a viewing went on).... so did a lunch food shop (cheese baton + tub of sandwich filler) .... then killed time and ate first on a clifftop, then in a park car park .... killed as much time as I could.... and headed back.... back here, there's a note to say flattie's out and staying out all night.
So that's a WIN - I get the telly - and to be able to relax/slob out a bit without the fear that flattie+1 might suddenly turn up while I am flicking sweet wrappers onto the floor... which is actually a fail as I don't actually have any sweeties
