You can turn up any time you like (2 1/2 hours before the event is recommended anyway). Once in the park, you can go around, but you can only enter your particular venue a certain time in advance. I don't know what this is for the aquatic centre, but it could be, say, 1 to 1 and a half hours before the event.

Other things he tells me you might find useful:
    1) If picking tickets up from the box office, factor time in for that too as they don't have lots of windows open. It took 45 mins to get the Opening Ceremony ticket, but queues tend to be shorter earlier on in the day and after the crowd have entered the stadium for the morning events.
    2) If it suits you to do so, the route out to West Ham station is much less crowded after a big event. Having said that, the aquatic centre is the closest venue to Stratford tube, so you're probably still better off going there.
    3) If you're planning to eat there, it's easier to have something in Westfield where there are shorter queues than lining up at the world's largest McDonalds.
    4) Check the weather forecast before you go. If its rainy, there's not a lot of places to shelter other than the ticketed venues.
    5) If you want to have a wander round and see the buildings, pick up one of the free London 2012 park maps from the Games Makers so you can see what's what.
    6) Inside the park, the world's biggest McDonalds is huge and busy, but the busiest place is the 2012 store. When he went on Friday the queue just to get in the shop was 45 minutes.

thanks for this. i shall definitely be taking a waterproof jacket! i have been told the biggest problem is getting water - you can't take it in and although there are free water fountains, the queues for them are ludicrous.

in terms of food - i'll just take a sarnie in there. nothing worse than queuing for overpriced fast food at a sports venue when you could be watching the sport instead!

the GPS thing doesn't tell you where you are, it tells you how far you've run / skiied, and how fast, what your split times are, how many calories you've burned etc. especially useful if you always run the same route (which i generally do) because you can see exactly where you are improving vs. before, and what the effect of putting more effort in on uphill bits is on the flat bit afterwards etc.
Stopwatch in your pocket and some mental maths can tell you most of that :P

not really - you can't get a stop watch which can measure your current time against the last time you were running this route in real time and tell you whether your 4th km was quicker than last time you ran it. they are really useful and motivational (and getting better at running is all about motivation!) - i've got a GPS running app on my phone at the moment, but it's annoying having it strapped to my arm when i'm running and would prefer to have a tiny MP3 player and a GPS watch instead!

surely there's an app for that?

If you're in html mode then stick it in a div...? Hard to know what the problem is without seeing it though :)

I've got some div code if you need it.... but not sure what you're trying to do.

Thanks, but I don't know what div is!

An hour later, I did go into html because even though I don't know it, it somehow makes more sense to me?!

My problem now is that I have published the post, it exists on the website (facebook is showing correct link to it) but in categories, the blog category doesn't have a tick next to it. I have a page called blog, but it isn't in there because that is .com/blog. the blog post is in .com/categories/blog

Do I make any sense at all?

i thought i was invincible when i was 31, but 32 saw my body start to fall to bits with constant injuries. i think i am finally going to have to start warming up and stretching down properly otherwise i'm going to do some real damage. i might need to get some sports physio and i probably also need knee realignment surgery, and replacement achilles, adductor, neck muscles and a couple of replacement vertebrae.

    Wait until you hit 34!

My dh is leaping arpund the roomd naked wirh an electric tennis raket killing mosquitos. Our room smells of babequed insects and it sounds and looks like tiny fireworks.

And people wonder what wr do for nightlife/entertainment in the country side.

If we are going in for embarrassing revelations, we quite often can be seen dancing to the Archers music. And who can resist dancing to the uni challenge theme?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

That reminds me, something I had meant to mention to lir...

At the library, most of us have second jobs and one of my colleagues is a musician. He says there's a free app he's got for tuning. He also teaches and says this means he doesn't have to carry a metronome and other equipment around with him. I can't remember the name, but he said that there are several and that this is one of the most recommended if that helps.

I think it may be this one:

    33 today. :(

had roast chicken with tarragon, roast spuds, carrots, cauliflower cheese and yorkshires (i know i know you're not supposed to have them with chicken). as i said to OH - you've basically cooked a birthday meal for yourself, not for me! i would have preferred fish finger sandwiches but it was a good dinner, and the key is that i didn't have to cook it - i normally cook sunday dinner.

I don't eat red meat & regularly have yorks puds with chicken...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
