Proof that Andy Murray is actually British, he's singing the national anthem! Blimey!

    Of course he's British- he's winning!:T:whistle:

    Berlin?

Probably because it had monumental buildings before the Cold War and after that it was a showcase city for the eastern and Western blocs, and they tried to outdo each other.

Been to Cologne- it's their fourth city and very impressive. Germany's awash with impressive cities and sometimes seems like a much bigger country like the US

i didn't think much of berlin when i was there. the most impressive buildings were the russian war memorial, and the nazi air ministry. the rest was quite underwhelming, although the tiergarten was a decent city park and the brandenburg gate was ok. berlin is half empty - big enough for 6 million and only 2-3 million actually living and working there i think. big open spaces of nothingness in the outer parts of the city centre as well IIRC.

dunno if this is what LIR meant, but i think berlin has an uber cool clubbing scene. my opinion on clubbers is that they should all have a pint of ale in a pub garden and just bloody well calm down.

I have a friend that does that, but he lives in Streatham. How he's still alive, I don't know.

I'm with you on the small thing. Even with our family of 6 now, there is no need for more than 2000square feet. I'd buy beautiful/unique/exclusive.

Hmmm. Try marrying a musician. We are very loveydovey but space apart out of earshot is a true blessing. Dh would love to have Clandon House in surrey if it were more remote. I still wanna build.

personally i think that the whole thing about the media supposedly referring to him as scottish when he is losing and british when he is winning is a complete fabrication on behalf of a load of angry sepratist scots with elephantine sized chips on their shoulders. there were numerous references to his "scottishness" in the commentary today, and the BBC even allowed a few saltires to be shown on national telly, no censorship or anything.

as with everyone else, win or lose the media always refer back to their regional identity, whether that be scots, or northern, or london or whatever. it gives them something to fill up column inches with. then when they lose a couple of angry red faced individuals with nothing better to do get all uptight about it.

it's my birthday today- happy birthday to me. i'm happy now, got olympics tickets, sitting on my rear whilst OH makes my birthday dinner (although a little annoyed that she didn't do what i asked for which was a massive plate of fishfinger sandwiches with vegetable samosas on the side), whilst i watch people running around a track on the telly. wonderful .

4 of my friends are at the olympic stadium for the 100m final tonight though, i would have preferred that i think!

Darling chewy, happy birthday to you. Hope your oh is spoling you and doing no laundry.

    Did you eat cake?

yeah, but birds don't listen to the rules do they.

when she asks me what i want for presents, i tell her and she says "i'm not getting that it's boring", so the response is "fine, get me whatever you want for my birthday" and then she has a sulk!
    I think....

Could do a Xmas market day out ... I've never been to one of those. Those furren-themed things....

There's no point you all coming to the seaside and all of us sitting on the steps to a beach wearing a duffel coat and eating chips in the rain :)

I would be up for that,

Note to self, get pass port form.

Sheesh, i must be a good wife. I listen and get something i know he wants i think. Neither of us are very 'presenty' though, but he does love surprises. His favourite birthday was the one i bought sea food and served it pn his favourite plate.

I miss being the sort of person who wanted to go clubbing. Mad nights of flights to club all night in strange cold places with crazy music then getting taxi to airport dawn flights back and working

I liked that life but would hate it now iyswim.

I know about the clubbing scene, but its not that that is the driver at, i think, though might be part of the....zeitgeisty thing. Lots of young academics and artists we know, for example, are spending months this summer in berlin.
