the beauty of the kindle is e-ink. the kindle app is nice but the strain on the eyes from a backlit screen is why I could never read on the pc0 -
She is 71 and has some ailments that she has neglected in the last year. On the outside she is fit, active and drives a 4x4 too fast. Inside she has a leaky heart valve that she really should sort out. Mentally she is in pieces at the moment, but that it is to be expected when she has lost her husband of 49+ years.0

Programme on Ch 4 now about 50 Shades of Grey.
Ever read The Story of O? That's of a similar nature, written 60 years ago. It's online/free too, just google it and there's loads of download sites. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Story_of_O0 -

oh dear poor you...I got called the c word today and wasn't my fault at all....just driving along nice and safely hunting for a parking space (that wasn't there).

I dunno what we woulD have done if we had kids. I cannot see we would not have encouraged hard work though. I fear i might have been aarent with high expectations and a quite mean mother though if the kid were not driven in its own right. Which is a bit of a terrible admission.
I know what you mean but it's unlikely you would be a mean mother (as you put it) cos you adapt the to the child as and when.
sadly, I was brought up with the phrases such as ' coming 2nd doesn't count'' and other choice ones like 'No such word as can't' etc. Now I wonder wy I am neurotic.
Neurotic poeple are slim Micheals cos we tremble inside and it burns calories I think. But what do you do when you reward the worker for trying hard and then the lazy one scores high results? Do you reward the result?
Hi SC, read your posts above and hope things aren't too heavy for you...I never know what to say. PN said it all better.
We had/have a similar thing. One is bright but sometimes didn't push as they can rely on the 'brightness' and the other is very hard-working, plugs away at stuff to get the same result. We've always called them tortoise and hare (like the fable) and hope they both end up at the same place eventually. It is looking that way at the mo.
I don't ever say there is no such word as 'can't' to them though ..............but son is currently job hunting (to fill in 18 months before the TC starts) and he said it to me the other day ....got to come 1st for a job interview as coming second means no job...so same as coming last. I hope he didn't get that from us.0 -

Good luck. She'll love you after a couple of daysProgramme on Ch 4 now about 50 Shades of Grey.
She just started it whilst we were away thinking it was a mystery novel.
She told me it was raunchy but I had no idea it was !!!!!!. Is it like Anais Nin's stuff?
Sadly, I can't read the copy we had as it disintegrated along with the Simon Cowell bio ~(no, not mine, OH read that one)
Pages just fell out. They must have skipmed on the glue solution.0 -

I graduated years ago with a good degree but at a time of high unemployment. Had six interviews before I got a post (but had sent over 100 application letters).
Started voluntary work which lead to a permanent job. I had no idea that this was an unusual period in the economy.
Got to figure out what DS can do for a living. His talents are not yet materialising (has some maths proficiency though), and we're all aware of his challenges.
Any and all ideas welcome.:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
