we can do a butter vs margarine to see if there is a mushroom bias?

pure butter here although I have started using utterly butterly (as it's a touch cheaper) for baking.

I just can't believe it's not butter

In the current climate a lot of dad's are rightly getting in the news and saying they want to see their kids more often so sympathy is with dads at the moment. I have no doubt your ex is able to ride the crest of that at times and it's all "your fault". However there are plenty of downbeat dads out there and children aren't stupid. If their parent - dad or mum - lets them down time, after time, after time; then they realise and want to disengage from the relationship because they know its not worth their time or the emotional confusion. Unfortunately the tw*t you married doesn't seem to realise that. His loss.
Sue, can you just not see his facebook rubbish and block him from yours? I don't understand that stuff, but tbh the last thing you need is top be privy to his tantrums and carping.

Agree with both those. Do your boys know about the hassle he gives you? If so, I suspect you may find that before long James will decide to give his dad a piece of his mind and explain in no uncertain terms whose fault all of this is. At least, that's what I would guess from the impression I've gathered of him: a young man with plenty of character and a mind of his own, who loves his mum and won't want to sit back and watch her being unfairly blamed. But maybe you've told him that would just make things worse, in which case he'll probably comply with your wishes. Have I guessed right, or am I waaaayyy off the mark???

I can't catch up anymore. What's been happening please? Each time I come and haven't been for ages I worry that something awful has happened and then I'll pop up and embarrass myself talking about Lurpak.

Just had myself a rare couple of hours peace by crying off the family Father's Day meal. :o

Yay! Lovely to see you again Doozer. You are always welcome, and nobody expects you to be up on all the latest happenings if you haven't been around for a while.

    On the butter issue....
Butter for bread etc - I don't care whether it's organic but try to get it from free range cows
Echo/Stork for baking - unless I run out, in which case butter
Olive oil for other kinds of cooking

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

youch. just looked at train tickets to brum £62.50 for a weekend away to see some wedding dresses.

Try looking at tickets from marylebone to birmingham snow hill, takes longer but it is much cheaper. Just looked at a random time next weekend £12 each way for specific trains or £25 for off peak return. Of course then you need to get into London and across London and pay for all that.

Aww. Someone said something to me about not being sure, but yes, I understand now I've seen them. All we can think is to apply a waterproof backboard to give the actual wall the waterproofing and put the tiles on a wall well away from water.

I have family who have rough textured coloured granites in their shower and whilst it was beautiful initially and had a real natural, luxury feel to it, they white ones have kind of changed colour now and it looks a bit, erm, alive. :o

I do adore those tiles, very special - somewhere else? Either a feature wall away from water in the room, which you could hoover/brush - being adult you're unlikely to spill water over the wrong side of a room? Maybe you could risk it on the bath wall if the bath is standing away from the wall, but I don't think anyone would like to guarantee it. It's hard as a professional to recommend something. As someone who knows what they want, you have the option to take the risk like I like wallpaper in my bathrooms too - I can always change it, but even I don't think it's worth it on a wet wall!
Yeah, i get iat now, living walls are jot a good idea. :(. If we are going to spend money on things like that, and thats the sort of thig ithink its worth soending money on, then its silly to spend it on something that will turn slimy green and health hazardous.

I am looking at mother of pearl tiles now. Not as nice, but still the play of light thing going on. I really want white (or off white) on white going on. I really wanted it to look like the city of bath thing, with georgian meets roman from outer space, hence the rough hewn stone, but.......not slime.

If not going to next, should be able to get a return from marylebone to Brum for 25 (off peak). That's a walk on fare too so might do better in advance. Shouldn't be that much for a return from Brighton to London?

Edit: chewy beat me, and 'next' should be NEC

Generally speaking I don't put butter/marg on anything except for bread. I do really like carrots steamed for a couple of minutes then fried in butter with some black pepper, but I can rarely be bothered to do that as it makes two things dirty. The only thing I absolutely have to put margarine on other than toast is a baked potato.

Baked potatoes should have real butter, and lots of it, every time.

£9 advance tickets available. Now to buy a weekend return (else I will have a heart attack finding the right trains at specific times)
    £45 :)
